INSTRUCTOR: Carey Roess

INSTRUCTOR PROFILE: Ms. Roess has over twelve years experience working with EAL and
international students as both a teacher and an administrator. She
teaches in the full-time English Language Program at The University of
Winnipeg; and ESL Language Test Prep at The University of Manitoba.
She recently returned from a two-year period in Japan teaching and doing
curriculum development at a private womens university, and is currently
completing her BEd After-Degree at The University of Manitoba.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to help students develop and improve their test-
taking skills in all four areas of the IELTS: reading, writing, speaking and listening. This course is meant for
language learners at a high intermediate or advanced level of English who are preparing to take the IELTS
(International English Language Testing System) or preparing for success in an academic environment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
During this course, you will:

1. Increase your familiarity with the IELTS exam and the types of questions it contains
2. Learn strategies for answering different types of questions
3. Increase your listening, speaking and reading skills
4. Reduce errors in writing compositions

INSTRUCTOR EXPECTATIONS/EVALUATION
Students are required to be on time and attend all classes. Student evaluation is based on attendance. A
minimum 50% attendance is required to pass. Students are graded on a Pass/Fail.
