The key takeaways are that the teachers want to ensure a successful year for the students by reviewing concepts, teaching life skills, and having clear routines and expectations. Communication between teachers and families is emphasized.

The classroom routines and procedures include arrival at 8:30, dismissal at 3:40, eating free breakfast and lunch, and procedures around absences, conferences, birthdays and daily homework folders.

The homework expectations are that homework reinforces skills and teaches responsibility. It should be done Monday through Thursday and checked in homework folders. There may be consequences like no fun Friday for incomplete homework. Parents are encouraged to help with homework.

Dear Families,

Welcome to a new school year! This is sure to be a

terrific year. We look forward to working with you to ensure
the best possible year for your third grader. As a team, we
can ensure that your child is on the path to success!

As the year begins, your child will spend time

reviewing and building upon previously learned concepts.
This allows your child to start the year out on a successful
and positive note. Beyond academics, your child will be
taught valuable life skills such as following directions, time
management, and responsibility. These skills, routines, and
procedures will aid in the learning process by helping
learning be the most important part of the day. The
knowledge and skills your child gains this year will help lead
your child to future academic success.

Please review this information packet so both you

and your child understands our classroom routines,
procedures and expectations. If you are aware of what is
expected of your child at school, it will help us to better
work together as a team! We believe communication is key
so please do not hesitate to contact any of us with any
comments, concerns or questions.

Sincerely,
Third Grade Teachers

Homework is an important tool that reinforces skills taught
in the classroom. The purpose of homework is to extend
concepts, teach responsibility, and help students to
develop good study habits.

Students should be prepared to do homework Monday-

Thursday. Some classes will have homework due daily
and some will have homework due Friday.

We invite parents and guardians to help their child with

their homework! Homework is wonderful practice for
students and a great way for you to be involved in their
learning!

There will be consequences for homework that is not

completed. Failure to complete homework will result in
no fun Friday.

We understand that occasionally there are

situations beyond our control that could prevent
your student from completing their homework.
Please call us or send a note if a situation like this
occurs and we will be happy to work with you!
Following the rules is important. By
implementing a set of classroom rules,
students are better prepared for the real
world where they will be expected to follow
established rules and laws. Each classroom
will have their own set of rules but they will
correlate to the school rules which are:
1. Follow directions the first time.
2. Do all of your work.
3. Wait until you are called on to speak and
use kind words.
4. Keep all hands, feet, and objects to
yourself
5. Stay in your area. Ask if you need to
move.
Please encourage your child to make smart choices
each day. Remind him/her of the importance of
following the rules. Reinforcement at home plays a
crucial role in helping your child develop good habits
in this area.

Third grade is implementing Fun Friday as a positive

reward for students. All students start the week with a
clean slate for fun Friday. In order to earn Fun Friday
students will:
1. Complete homework every night.
2. Have less than four behavior marks throughout
the week.
3. Complete all classwork (unless absent.)

Students who do not earn Fun Friday will remain in the

classroom with a teacher to finish any unfinished work
or complete an assignment.

Each class will also use a positive, daily behavior tool.
