Preface

Audience
Prior to using NetCOBOL, it is assumed that you have the following knowledge:

・ You have some basic understanding as to how to navigate through and use the Microsoft Windows.
・ You have a basic understanding of the COBOL language.

Security
Since there are Internet-enabled functions in the development environment, it is recommended that you use the NetCOBOL development
environment only in an Intranet, and not in the more open Internet environment.
To ensure security when working in an environment that is connected to the Internet, it is important to correctly set up both the applications
created with NetCOBOL and their operating environment.
To safeguard resources (such as databases, and input and output files), and definition and information files required for the operation of
programs from illegal access and tampering, you need to restrict access to the resources by OS functions and programs. In particular, keep
important resources in an intranet environment in which a firewall has been installed.
Although this product offers different communication functions (such as the simple communication interface facility, and the Web
subroutines), only the Web subroutines have been designed for use with Internet services. Therefore, only use these other functions in
environments that are not connected to the Internet, or in intranet environments in which firewalls have been installed and which have
been constructed to prevent security breaches.
If you are using the Web subroutines with NetCOBOL on a Web server, use the Web server authorization apparatus and encryption
communication function (SSL) to prevent illegal access or information being leaked or tampered with. Additionally, use the Web server
access log to investigate and pursue any incidents of illegal access. For details, refer to the documentation for the Web server you are
using.
You need to test applications created with NetCOBOL to ensure that even if malicious or careless data values are provided as input, no
important data can be destroyed or sensitive information obtained.

Chapter 1 Introduction
This document provides the information needed to install the NetCOBOL product.

WARNINGS:
1. If you have anti-spy software
We have found that Microsoft's anti-spyware software can prevent NetCOBOL installing successfully. Although NetCOBOL does
not install any spyware, it appears that the Microsoft software may be preventing certain registry settings so that some core
NetCOBOL software does not execute. We have not heard of problems with other anti-spyware products but it is possible that others
may have similar effects. To ensure this doesn't happen:

- Disable all anti-spyware software.

- Install Fujitsu NetCOBOL following the instructions in this manual.
- Once installation is complete, you can enable your anti-spyware software.
2. Although a volume shadow copy service error is issued to the event log when installing and uninstalling on Windows Vista, Windows
7 and Windows Server 2008, there are no problems in the volume shadow copy service or the execution of this product.

3. If using Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008, note that if you install NetCOBOL using the "Only for me" option,
you must run the installer using administrator privileges in order to Modify, Repair, or Remove.
In the InstallShield Wizard User Information screen, select "Anyone who uses this computer (all users)" for the "Install this
application for" option. If you select "Only for me (User Name)", you may not be able to use the Modify, Repair, or Remove
functions. If you must use the "Only for me" option, use the folder with hidden file attributes listed below (with "x" representing
the letter of your system drive), right-click on setup.exe, and select "Run as Administrator" in order to use the Modify, Repair, or
Remove functions.
32 bit system: x:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{A3CAC9FB-05AE-491C-BF5D-29E4042FDE70}
x64 system: x:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{A3CAC9FB-05AE-491C-BF5D-29E4042FDE70}.

4. Setting the Microsoft Windows error-reporting (WER) service

In Windows Vista (Service Pack 1 and later), Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008, files for troubleshooting program exceptions
are created by enabling Windows error reporting (WER). The WER function is enabled when installing NetCOBOL. The default
registry data, the state of registry data before installation, and the state of registry data after installation are saved in the following
files:

- WERINFOb.txt: registry data before installation

- WERINFOa.txt: registry data after installation
- WERINFOd.txt: default registry data
5. Upgrading from Windows 98 or Windows Me to Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista or Windows 7
Due to differences in the systems and folder structures between Windows 98/Me and the Windows XP/2000/Vista/7 operating
systems, you will need to kill your NetCOBOL license and uninstall NetCOBOL before upgrading between these operating systems.
See the NetCOBOL Registration Utility User's Guide for more information.

6. Cluster disks may not have sufficient space for copying files. In this case, remove the folders and files created by the installer and
install the software on another drive, or add more disk space and reinstall the software.

7. Do not specify the root drive as the installation folder - NetCOBOL may not be installed correctly.
8. Do not install NetCOBOL in the same folder as NetCOBOL for .NET, x64 NetCOBOL, and other products - the products may not
run correctly.

Chapter 2 Installing NetCOBOL

2.1 Installing V10 as your first installation of NetCOBOL

To install NetCOBOL for the first time, follow the steps below.

NOTES:
・ Please take seriously the request of the installer to exit all applications - including resident virus-checking software. These applications
may have some MFC (Microsoft Foundation Class) files locked that need to be updated during the installation. A successful installation
relies on being able to install the latest versions of these files.

・ Note that you will need to restart your computer in order to activate the newly installed software.

To install NetCOBOL:
1. Insert the NetCOBOL CD in your CD drive. "InstallShield Wizard" should start automatically. If it does not start automatically, or
if you downloaded the product, start the program "setup.exe" in the root folder of the CD or the folder to which you unzipped the
downloaded zip file.
The following dialog will appear, even if the Registration Utility has already been installed.

Click the Install button to verify that the Registration Utility has been installed, or to install it using the defaults. If you wish to use
settings other than the defaults, click Cancel and then manually install the Registration Utility, following the instructions in the
NetCOBOL Registration Utility User's Guide.

-2-
2. The main InstallShield Wizard for Fujitsu NetCOBOL for Windows screen is displayed, following some "Preparing to Install"
messages.

3. Follow the InstallShield dialogs to install the software. This will take you through several dialogs including accepting the End User
License Agreement (EULA), and selecting which parts of the product you wish to install.
Caution: Select "Anyone who uses this computer (all users)" for the "Install this application for" option in the InstallShield Wizard
User Information screen. If you select "Only for me (User Name)", you may not be able to use the Modify, Repair, or Remove
functions. Refer to "Chapter 1 Introduction" for detailed information.

-3-
4. Click the "Finish" button to complete the installation and re-start your computer.

5. From the Start>All Programs menu, select "Fujitsu NetCOBOL V10", and select the NetCOBOL component you wish to start (e.g.
COBOL Project Manager for COBOL program development).

6. After the software is installed, follow the instructions in the NetCOBOL Registration Utility User's Guide to obtain your full license;
otherwise the product is enabled for only 5 days on your computer.

2.2 Upgrading to NetCOBOL V10 from an earlier release

The process for upgrading to NetCOBOL V10 is similar to the process of installing NetCOBOL from scratch. The only difference is that
you need to uninstall the earlier version. Note that you will be issued a new serial number for V10.

To update to NetCOBOL v10:

-4-
Click the Install button to verify that the Registration Utility has been installed, or to install it using the defaults. If you wish to use
settings other than the defaults, click Cancel and then manually install the Registration Utility, following the instructions in the
NetCOBOL Registration Utility User's Guide.

2. After you click the Install button, the following message may appear:

Click the OK button to proceed with the installation. You will be asked to restart your computer at the end of the installation
procedure.

3. If you have not already uninstalled your previous version of NetCOBOL, you will see these messages:

-5-
Click OK, uninstall the previous version of NetCOBOL using the Add or Remove Programs utility, and then install NetCOBOL
version 10.

4. After the Registration Utility has been installed, the main InstallShield Wizard for Fujitsu NetCOBOL for Windows screen is
displayed, following some "Preparing to Install" messages.

-6-
6. Click the "Finish" button to complete the installation and re-start your computer.

7. From the Start>All Programs menu, select "Fujitsu NetCOBOL V10", and select the NetCOBOL component you wish to start (e.g.
COBOL Project Manager for COBOL program development).

8. After the software is installed, follow the instructions in the NetCOBOL Registration Utility User's Guide to obtain your full license;
otherwise the product is enabled for only 5 days on your computer.

2.3 License Issues

Refer to the NetCOBOL Registration Utility User's Guide for detailed information regarding licensing NetCOBOL.
A general recommendation when troubleshooting problems in the area of obtaining licenses is to be careful! Rushing to try several different
ways around a problem may result in you obtaining and using more than one license (if your company has purchased more than one
license). This fact may not come to light for several months - only becoming an issue when all licenses are used up, by which time exactly
what went on in an early install has been forgotten. We encourage you to communicate your issue to NetCOBOL Support.
If you have a machine failure that causes your license to be lost, such as loosing a hard disk, please communicate your issue to NetCOBOL
Support, and we will reinstate your license on our license-managing server. Once you have recovered or replaced your machine, you can
reinstall NetCOBOL. If you need to use the product before you hear back from us, for example, if you encounter these problems at the
beginning of a weekend, then the 5-day temporary license that is initially installed with the product should give you sufficient time to
continue with your work. If you have let your maintenance lapse, you will need to contact your sales representative to confirm what options
are available to you.

2.4 Message "Information about PowerGEM Plus installation is

invalid."
This message is displayed when software (such as Microsoft's anti-spyware software) has prevented NetCOBOL from installing
successfully. Although NetCOBOL does not install any spyware, it appears that the Microsoft software may be preventing certain registry
settings so that some core NetCOBOL software does not execute. If you encounter this problem, follow the instructions below.

・ Disable all anti-spyware software.

・ Re-run the setup.exe from the CD or downloaded version of Fujitsu NetCOBOL for Windows.

-7-
・ Select "Repair" from the installation options and click the "Next" button.
・ Once installation is complete you can enable your anti-spyware software.
