ThenewBMW5SerieswiththedevelopmentcodeG30willbeequippedwithafurtherdevelopedand
optimizedheatingandairconditioningsystem.Theheatingandair-conditioningsystemissimilarto
theBMWG12.TheG30usesthenewR1234yfrefrigerant.

Abrushlessblowermotorisinstalledintheheatingandair-conditioninghousingwhichprovidesthe
supplyoffreshairtothevehicleinteriorviathefreshairmicrofilters.Themicrofilterscanbereplaced
fromanaccesspointfromthefootwellareaunderthedashboardonthepassenger'sside.

TheIHKAcontrolunitisseparatefromtheIHKAcontrolpanelandislocatedbehindthedashboardon
thepassengersidetowardsthecenterofthevehicle.

Theclimatecontrolsystemisdividedintotwozones.Thefirstdigit3representstheindividually
adjustabletemperaturesettings,theseconddigit2representsthezonesinwhichtheamountofair
canbeindividuallycontrolled.

IntheG30,a3/2-zoneIHKAsystemisinstalledasstandardequipment.Threedifferenttemperature
zonescanbesetbythedriver/frontpassengerandintherearpassengercompartment.Theamount
ofaircanonlyberegulatedfromthefrontcontrolpanelbythedriverorfrontpassenger.Anautomatic
airrecirculationcontrolsensorisinstalledforautomaticrecirculatedairflapcontrol.Thesolarsensoris
mountedonthewindshieldunderneaththetrimofthemirrorbase.Understrongsunlightconditions,it
controlsthetemperature,amountofairandairdistributionaccordinglyfortheairconditioning.Thisis
sotheselectedtemperatureforthevehiclesinteriorisproperlymaintained.

The3/2-zoneIHKAusesthefamiliaroperatingconceptfromtheG12.Itprovidesthedriverandfront
passengerwithindividualandseparateleft/righttemperaturecontrol,blowercontrolandindividual
selectionofanautomaticprogram.Allfunctionsonthiscontrolpanelarecontrolledusingbuttons.
Dependingontheequipmentinstalled,theamountofairandairdistributionforthedriver/front
passenger,seatheatingandactiveseatventilationcanbecontrolledusingtheIHKAcontrolpanel.

Onthe3/2-zoneIHKA,thecurrentsettingsofthedriverfortemperature,amountofairandair
distributioncanbetransferredtothepassenger'ssidebypressingtheSYNCbuttonontheright
sideoftheIHKAcontrolpanel.TheIHKAmenuisopenedintheCentralInformationDisplay(CID)by
themenubuttoninthecenteroftheIHKAcontrolpanel.Thestratificationfordriver/frontpassenger
canbeadjustedseparatelyinthismenualongwithsettingtheactivationtimesfortheparkedcar

Thetemperatureintherearpassengercompartmentisadjustedbyaconventionalstratificationwheel.
Theamountofairfortherearpassengercompartmentissuppliedbythemainblowermotorinstalled
inthepassengerfootwellunderthedashboard.Theairvolumecanonlybeadjustedbythefront
controlpanelbythedriverorfrontpassenger.Theairflowcanbeturnedoffbytherearpassengersby
rotatingtheaircontrolwheelsontherearpanel.

3.Stratification
OntheG30thestratificationforthedriver/frontpassengerisnotadjustedintheusualmannerbythe
knurledwheelsonthefrontdashpanel.Instead,thereisamenubuttonlocatedinthecenterofthe
IHKAcontrolpanel.PressingthisbuttonopenstheIHKAmenuintheCID.Oncethemenuisdisplayed
intheCID,youmustselectthetemperatureadjustmentbuttonasshownbelow.

Itisnowpossibletoselectthestratifiedairbetweendriverandfrontpassenger.Oncethedriveror
passengerisselected,thestratificationcanbeadjustedbyturningthecontroller.Theselectedsetting
issavedbypressingthecontroller.
