1. Plugthepoweradapterinandfullychargeyourcomputer'sbatteryuntilthebatteryindicatorlightsturnoffandtheadapter
pluglightgoesfromambertogreen,whichindicatesthatthebatteryisfullycharged.
2. DisconnectthepoweradapteranduseyouriBookorPowerBook.Whenyourbatterygetslow,youwillseethelowbattery
warningdialogonthescreen.Continuetouseyourcomputeruntilitgoestosleep.Atthatpointthebatteryhasbeen
sufficientlydrainedforcalibration.
3. Connectthepoweradapterandleaveitconnecteduntilthebatteryisfullychargedagain.

Youhavetofullychargeandthendischargeyourbatteryonlyoncetocalibrateit.Afterthat,youcanconnectanddisconnect
thepoweradapterwhenthebatteryisatanychargelevel.

T ip:Whenthebatteryreaches"empty",thecomputerisforcedintosleepmode.Thebatteryactuallyholdsareservebeyond
"empty",tomaintainthecomputerinsleepforaperiodoftime.Oncethebatteryistrulyexhausted,thecomputerisforcedto
shutdown.Atthispoint,anyopenfilescouldbelost.Therefore,itisimportantthatyoufindanelectricaloutletandconnectthe
adapterbeforetheforcedshutdownoccurs.

ThebatterycalibrationforthePowerBookG4(15inchDoubleLayerSD)andanymodelofMacBookorMacBookProhas
beenupdatedbecauseofanewbatteryreleasedwiththiscomputer.Withthesecomputers,followthesestepstocalibrateyour
battery:

1. PluginthepoweradapterandfullychargeyourPowerBook'sbatteryuntilthelightringorLEDonthepoweradapterplug
changestogreenandtheonscreenmeterinthemenubarindicatesthatthebatteryisfullycharged.
2. Allowthebatterytorestinthefullychargedstateforatleasttwohours.Youmayuseyourcomputerduringthistimeas
longastheadapterispluggedin.

3. Disconnectthepoweradapterwhilethecomputerstillonandstartrunningthecomputeroffbatterypower.Youmayuse
yourcomputerduringthistime.Whenyourbatterygetslow,thelowbatterywarningdialogappearsonthescreen.
4. Atthispoint,saveyourwork.Continuetouseyourcomputerwhenthebatterygetsverylow,thecomputerwill
automaticallygotosleep.

5. Turnoffthecomputerorallowittosleepforfivehoursormore.
6. Connectthepoweradapterandleaveitconnecteduntilthebatteryisfullychargedagain.

T ip:Whenthebatteryreaches"empty",thecomputerisforcedintosleepmode.Thebatteryactuallykeepsbackareserve
beyond"empty",tomaintainthecomputerinsleepforaperiodoftime.Oncethebatteryistrulyexhausted,thecomputeris
forcedtoshutdown.Atthispoint,withthesafesleepfunctionintroducedinthePowerBookG4(15inchDoubleLayerSD)
computers,thecomputer'smemorycontentshavebeensavedtotheharddrive.Whenpowerisrestored,thecomputerreturns
