    Key Understanding Jesus belonged to a Teaching Focus for the Lesson

    to, students move on to reflecting and learning about
    Learning Point B1.1 (Names one of the the communities that Jesus belongs to and what He

    reflective time where they are going to learn about Disciples
    Jesus and four of His friends, the disciples. Godly Play

    Strategies for Teaching and Learning


    50 *As a part of the students Literacy Rotations, particular
    minutes groups will focus on retelling the story Jesus Calls the
    First Disciples. Throughout the week, all students will
    rotate and have a chance to complete all activities*
    1. Before students begin their activity, the teacher (ACELT1578)
    checks their understanding and refreshes their
    memory by asking students questions about what
    happened in the story
    a) What were the names of Jesus four friends?
    b) What was the name of the place Jesus met
    his four friends?
    c) What did Jesus and his four friends do
    together?
    d) What was one of the communities that Jesus
    belonged to?
    After they have done this, the teacher explains the
    activity so that students know what is expected of
    them.
    2. Students are then provided with an A4 piece of paper
    that has three boxes drawn on it. The teacher (ACELT1580 and A4
    explains to the students that they need to draw ACAVAM106) Worksheet
    pictures representing what happened in the Coloured
    beginning, middle and end of the story.

    3. Once students have completed this, the teacher asks
    the children to describe what is happening and writes
    the students descriptions word-for-word.
    4. To check students understanding further, the teacher
    asks students to swap their drawings with another
    student to see if they can sequence what they have (ACAVAM108)
    drawn.
    Conclusion (occurs during the allotted time for English)
    5 1. To conclude the lesson, the teacher provides
    minutes students with some time to wonder about
    a) What Jesus and his friends might have
    done together?
    b) How Jesus friends felt?
    c) What Jesus might have enjoyed about
    belonging to this community?
    (*After the reflection period, if students wish to
    provide answers to these questions they are free
    to do so*)

    *This form of Assessment will be completed through the use of a Checklist* -
    The students capacity to retell the story will be used to assess their understanding
    Anecdotal Notes will be written whilst students are answering the questions indicating any issues
    that arise, and prior to them beginning the activity.
