Answer all questions
1. With the aid of the diagram of a closed loop control system given below construct a block
diagram of the speed control system of a motorcycle with a human driver. Also identify the
input and output of each block. (5 marks)
4. Find for the following signal flow graph using masons gain formula
(6 marks)

5. Consider an under-damped second order system whose n (natural frequency) and (damping
ratio) are not well known. Develop an experiment whereby changing the input u(t) in a certain
way and recording the output y(t) with time you can determine the values of n and . (Note:
Only the complete answer will be given marks partial answer will not be considered)
(6 marks)
6. A useful circuit, called a lead network, is shown in Figure below. (9 marks)
(a)Determine the transfer function G(s) =Vo(s)/V(s).
(b)Determine the sensitivity of G(s) with respect to the capacitance C.
(c)Determine the transient response vo(t) for a step input V(s) = 1/s.
(b) Assume that the complex poles dominate, and determine the overshoot and settling time to
within 2% of the final value.
8. A closed-loop control system transfer function T(s) has two dominant complex conjugate
poles. Sketch the region in the left-hand s-plane where the complex poles should be located to
meet the specifications 0.6 0.8 and n 10 (3 marks)
