Exercise 1
Two resistors with resistance values of 20 ohms (R1) and 30 ohms
(R2) are connected in parallel. A 13 ohm resistor (R3) is connected
in series with the parallel pair of R1 and R2. The voltage applied to
the circuit causes a current of 4A to flow in the 13 ohm resistor (R3).
For the circuit:
a. Draw a circuit diagram showing:
An ammeter to measure the current in the 30 ohm resistor
R2.
A voltmeter to measure the voltage drop across the 20 ohm
resistor R1.
A voltmeter to measure the applied voltage.
b. Calculate the:
Ammeter reading of the current flowing through R2.
Voltage drop across the 20 ohm resistor R1.
Applied voltage.
Exercise 2
Calculate the voltage magnitude and polarity between points A and D
in this circuit, assuming a power supply output voltage of 10.5 volts:
Answer
R1=2K
R2=1K
R3=3.3K
R4=4.7K
R5=4.7K
Answer
Supply Voltage = 4.500 V
= 939
Determine the value of i1 using node voltages to solve the circuit.
Select the location of reference node to minimize the number of
unknown node voltages.
Answer 2A
V1 V2
V3
Node 1
Node 2 and node 3 super nodes
V1/2 + (V1-V2)/5 3 = 0
V1=10V
Node 2&3 V2=20V
V3=5V
V2/10 + (V2-V1) /5 - 4 = 0
(V2-V3) = 25
Find the maximum power that can be delivered to a resistive load by
the circuit shown below.
