The main purpose of Beijiao Sports Center is to serve the surrounding neighbourhoods, thus it was
extremely important to design it as a multi-functional and friendly place. The typical image of traditional
sports architecture is abandoned, in place for an activity space full of energy during or after sports events,
both day and night. The intent of the architecture is to create a community space for activity, one that
enlivens its immediate vicinities.

The general layout generates spaces in differing scales for a variety of activities, the dispensed spaces
creates a permeable interface between the site and surround urban context. These spaces are of different
heights and are able to host various kinds of outdoor activities.

This design introduces the concept of ecological architecture and unifies all the seperate spaces into one
through a central valley. The valley at the center of the architecture lies a streamlined park, and the
resulting omnidirectional activity creates vigorous spaces. A moderately sized sports field is located in one
side of the valley, which is also utilized as an outdoor performance venue. The platform of the valley
extends outwards, becoming a roof and forming the auditorium. The ground floor of the park provides a
pleasant environment for the hot days in summer. The porous geometry of the valley creates flexible spaces
for different events, such as shopping, exercise, dating, performing and lecture.

Due to the fact that the main purpose of Beijiao Sports Center in China, designed by Decode
Urbanism Office, is to serve people and surrounding neighborhoods, it was of crucial importance to
design it as amulti-functional and friendly, gathering place. The traditional concept and the image of
the sport facility are abandoned, in favor to a vivid, active space full of energy night and day, both during
sport events and after. The aim of the architects was to create a community space for higher social
resilience.
The divergent general layout creates a base and city with permeable interface between the site and the
existing, surrounding urban context, and activity venues of various sizes are formed. Created spaces
differ in height; therefore allow the host wide range of outdoor activities.
This amusing and playful design is unifying in its concept and it brings together separate spaces into
one, through a central event the valley. The design also introduces the rising trend
of ecologicalarchitecture. The valley is the center of all the activities, moderately sized sport field is
located in one side of the central gathering place and is utilized both as a field for sport activities and
outdoor performance venue. The platform of the valley is extended outwards so that it became a roof
and formed the auditorium. Great porosity of the geometry of the valley allows it to be adaptable and to
create flexible multi-purpose spaces for different events, such as shopping, performing, lecture and
exercise. The ground level of the park provides the development with a pleasant environment for the hot
summer days.

The dispersed layout generates space with multiple venues for various scale of activities, it is
further enforced by the permeable interface between the site and surrounding urban area. The
diverse ground leveling can host various types of outdoor activities.

The design ushers the concept of Ecological Architecture by unifying all venues through a central
valley; naturally, the valleygenerates and encourages a multi-level, and layering of activities
within the plaza while still acting as a focal point and streamlining all of the actions. A moderate
sized sports field is located at the center of the valley, which can also be used as a venue for
outdoor performances; the surrounding flow of circulation continues to peel up on the side, and
provides a natural grand-stand for the viewing of outdoor performances; the extended grandstands
transforms and becomes the roof for the swimming pool, while also acting as a elevated platform
for the whole valley. The elevated platform provides a pleasant environment in the hot days of
summer. The porous geometry of the valley creates multiple and flexible spatial conditions which
promotes the diversity of cultural , economic, and civic activities that can transpire not only within
the Beijiao Sports Center, but also beyond.

ARCHITECTURAL PROGRAMMING

Architectural Synthesis
Coming up with different architectural solution means careful and just analysis, synthesis and
interpretation of data collected was done. The nature of the project in view of its function and
practical use to the present and future users was handled with due consideration for a
coherent approach on the design of the proposal.

Conceptual Frameworks

Design Philosophy
Form Follows Function. This philosophy is a must for civic institutional projects. Though
figure is of great importance, the value of its function should not be overthrown.
Less is more. Character of a building is within its function. Simplicity is always about
beauty and elegance. To show grandeur, it should stay simple, yet not so plain.

DESIGN CONCEPT
Architecture mainly concerns of venustas (aesthetics), utilitas (function), firmitas (strength).
However, additional design principles are fused to come up with a comprehensive design solution.

Modular Achitecture

-Refers to the design of any system composed of separate components that can be connected together. The beauty
of modular architecture is that you can replace or add any one component (module) without affecting the rest of the
system. The opposite of a modular architecture is an integrated architecture, in which no clear divisions exist between
components.
The term modular can apply to both hardware and software.Modular software design, for example, refers to a design

strategy in which a system is composed of relatively small and autonomousroutines that fit together.

Modular design
Modular design, or "modularity in design", is a design approach that subdivides a
system into smaller parts called modules or skids, that can be independently created
and then used in different systems. A modular system can be characterized by
functional partitioning into discrete scalable, reusable modules, rigorous use of well-
defined modular interfaces, and making use of industry standards for interfaces.

Besides reduction in cost (due to less customization, and shorter learning time), and
flexibility in design, modularity offers other benefits such as augmentation (adding
new solution by merely plugging in a new module), and exclusion. Examples of
modular systems are cars, computers, process systems, solar panels and wind
turbines, elevators and modular buildings. Earlier examples include looms, railroad
signaling systems, telephone exchanges, pipe organs and electric power
distribution systems. Computers use modularity to overcome changing customer
demands and to make the manufacturing process more adaptive to change
(see modular programming).[1] Modular design is an attempt to combine the
advantages of standardization (high volume normally equals low manufacturing costs)
with those ofcustomization. A downside to modularity (and this depends on the extent
of modularity) is that low quality modular systems are not optimized for performance.
This is usually due to the cost of putting up interfaces between modules.
Post Modern Architecture (yung sayo eto)
Post Modern Architecture defines both form and function of equal value showing simplicity and
functionality in design with the minimum use of materials and maximum use of natural light in
geometric forms. The proposal embodied movements, being so called international style using
classical and modern language side-by-side, in planning and design defining the purpose of the
proposal.

Green Architecture
Green architecture is a design movement concerned with the environment. It does have a bunch of
principles which are useful, safe and efficient for the design scenario required. Though architectures
main accountability does not rely on the best solution, it should always be responsible to
accommodate and incorporate all possibilities available creating a practical and feasible solution. To
reach such goal, green architecture was incorporated in the planning and design of the proposal to
maintain sustainability and designs harmony with nature. Such principles are as follows:

Building
Passive Cooling
Natural Ventilation
Natural Lighting
Zero Carbon Emission
Green Building System
Passive Solar Heating

Green Materials
Pervious Pavement

Ecological Architecture

-WHAT IT MEANS / OUR DESIGN APPROACH

ECOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE merges the interests of sustainability, environmental consciousness, green, natural, and
organic approaches to evolve a design solution from these requirements and from the characteristics of the site, its
neighborhood context, and the local mirco-climate and topography.

ECOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE is naturally site-sensitive. The location of a building has a direct impact on its performance.
The local ecology of the site, its gradient, orientation, and exposure provide specific conditions, while the regional climate
offers a more general context for design. We incorporate aspects of passive solar and thermal mass into all of our work as
a mechanism of reducing energy consumption.

ECOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE is design that emphasizes natural materials and the use of renewable resources that come
from the earth in such a way that they can be returned to the earth without causing harm.

Many of our buildings appear very traditional (or normative) in style but often have not only a hyper-insulated or hybrid
building skin (rammed earth with insulation for example) but also domestic hot water solar systems as the first steps
toward energy independence.

Surveys by the City of Seattle and the Canadian government show that GREEN BUILDING has a higher first cost of only
2% to 8% more than conventional structures. Significant life cycle savings in both energy consumption and maintenance
benefits reward these choices throughout the life of the project.

We begin our design solutions with the goal of "creating a place" which appropriately connects the project to its location
and context. Our projects unify the solution through contextual sensitivity to place, a spatial creation which reflects the
spirit of the Architecture, and a solution rooted in the site and ecology of the place in balance with appropriate forms.

Architecture is part of thought or rather an extension of thought incorporated into the physical environment through
human effort. We seek to make this a healthy environment for the building users and also harmonious with the
environment.
Vernacular Architecture
Vernacular architecture is the use of locally available materials in the design in due consideration to
aesthetics. Since the proposal aims to showcase Vizcayas culture, it would be practically wise to
accommodate such design principle, thus making guests feel more intimate with the place.
Unifying Post Modern Architecture, Green Architecture and Vernacular Architecture suit the goals of
creating a hub to culminate culture, expose history and endorse Vizcaya for tourism. Understanding,
interpreting and applying these concepts incorporated with different design considerations shall come
up with a sustainable culture and tourism within the province.

FORM CONCEPT

STAIRS

---

The Philippine eagle, notoriously known as the monkey-eating species, scientifically named as
Pithecophaga jefferyi, is a species of eagles rife to Philippine forests. It is the largest of all eagles in
terms of length, rarest and powerful among other species in the ecosphere. Declared as the
Philippine National Bird, the building form concept will imitate its form of which resembles
tranquility, strength, dignity, power and beauty.

Tourism Concept
A sustainable tourism is also a major objective of the proposal. The proposal shall house reception on
tourists aiming to explore and know more about the province. This shall raise awareness on
environment, lifestyle, economy and culture of the people. Tourism shall cling on the pull and push
concept. The projects location, closer to the city, shall benefit the government in dragging tourists
into the province. Tourists are encourage to take an overview of the province creating motivation in
their heart to explore the province.

Planning Concept
The general idea for planning was greatly influenced by the Paraiso Tribu Vizcayano, a Lower Magat
eco-tourism project. The development framework depicts a system in which people, civilization and
environment are the key principles. The environment and civilization showcased by the people, the
people and civilization nurtured by the environment and the environment and people carved by
civilization.

Interrelationship
The main building is located in a manner not compromising the circulation of the primary national
road. On the other hand, the interrelationship of the spaces within the building function regarding
different activities should be of great consideration to achieve good circulation.

Movement/ Mobility
The Complexs circulation would depend on entrances, exits, pathways, and ramps properly located.
A good road network must be planned strategically to control traffic when problem arises.

Landscape Concept
The main principle integrated within the development is a development that coexist and blend with
nature. This principle shall then promote green building systems that will give nature and
development a taste of harmony. An open and wide greenery shall then be provided to serve as lung
that will breathe the building. Contour of the site would also be of use in utilizing natural ventilation
which will be circulated in the building.
Structural Concept
Structurally, the development shall integrate combination of concepts. Concepts shall include post
and lintels, Truss and frames, suspensions, cantilever footings, retaining walls, sheet piles and
geotextile sheets. Reinforced concrete would be a major structural material to be used in the
development. The development shall be made certified that it will pass geologic conditions of the
site. Importantly, the development shall fully comply with the standards and requirements set by the
National Building Code and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.
