Fox Elementary has a population of 1,235 students. Fox Elementary Media Center receives
approximately $18,450 annually. 41% of the student population at Fox Elementary are English
Language Learners and 85% receive free or reduced lunch. In order to meet the needs of its
culturally, economically and linguistically diverse student population, the Fox Elementary Media
Center will need to grow and adapt.
In addition to providing additional and necessary support to our ELL population, The
Foxs media center will also focus on supporting our 21st century learners. In keeping with
AASL standards, we want to ensure that all our students can demonstrate mastery of technology
tools for accessing information and pursuing inquiry. A skill that will translate to success both
academically and in career readiness. In order to encourage inquiry, another goal of Fox
Elementary media center is to build and maintain a makerspace.

BOOKS: The collection is continually replenished and refreshed. Fox Elementary takes part in
yearly Readers Rally so 5 copies of each book in next years competition will be purchased. In
order to accommodate our growing ELL population, purchases will be made of high interest
books in Spanish and dual language books. Follett makes ELL book sets for each grade level
priced from around $60 per set to $180.
PERIODICALS: Periodical selection will consist of both educational and interest based student
subscriptions. They will include both paper and online subscriptions to support access to research
and higher availability.
AV MATERIALS: Suggestions and requests for materials will be solicited from teachers. The
media center already has a vast video collection and the school has access to Safari Montage. An
increase in the use of Nooks and Kindles in the classroom, as well as our Bring Your Own
Device policy has led to an increased need for eBooks.
Books on CD are an excellent way for ELL and early learners to hear books read with fluency
and to help with pronunciation.
SUPPLIES: Daily office supplies, media supplies, promotional items and equipment supplies.
EQUIPMENT: By the end of the three year implementation period, the media center will be
equipped with 24 iPads with additional headphones and splicers for shared usage. This will be
enough to accommodate both small and large student groups. This will help students engage in
research and use apps to create interactive research projects. Sphero robots will be utilized in the
makerspace area and will be available for check-out by teachers. Students will use Sphero to
learn about robotics and programming.
MAKERSPACE: This area will support inquiry and become a place for project based learning.
Year 1 will consist of purchasing needed materials to get space started strong including the
purchase of several robotic kits such as, Littlebits Electronics Kits, Squishy Circuits, Lilypad,
and Makey Makey (kits will be chosen based on committee feedback.)
