Lesson idea implementation: Students will research and place events in chronological order on a timeline.
After the order is obtained, each event can be briefly described. This exercise will allow students to research
and apply knowledge on the causes and events leading to the American Revolutionary War. The advantage of
using readwritethink.org Timeline is its ease of use and simple construction. This will allow the students to
focus on the content rather than the process of putting a timeline together. It can easily be completed in one
or two classes. Teachers can evaluate the descriptions and chronology to assess the students knowledge on
the events leading to Revolution in America, which is large part of the 4th grade social studies curriculum.
Allowing students to find their own pictures of events and historical figures can extend the lesson allowing
each timeline to be different from each other.

After reviewing the students progress, the teacher can allow the students to move around the classroom and
see the other timelines. Students can then share their findings with each other, and compare what they
learned. The teacher can then show some timelines from other classes and save some of this classes to show
future classes. Feedback on how they just created a timeline with their own findings in their own words will
help the students feel involved in the lesson and have pride in their research.
