Norms were reviewed and will be reviewed prior to each meeting

Tessa Kern: Speech/Language Pathologist at Early Ed, Laketown &
Bayview
12 new ESPs across the district
Southwest Metro Intermediate #288
Made up of 11 school districts and serves students with programs in
Special Education, Career and Technical Education, Adult Basic
Education and Alternative Education
Can receive assistance with academics and mental health services
to support their overall growth in the classroom and beyond.
Recently expanded locations to include Stepping Stones and Rise in St.
Bonifacius

Update on programming and Changes
Have center-based programs at all buildings
Able to provide more consistency and routines for students
Currently going through MN Department of Educations Compliance
Monitoring
Review files, staff complete online interviews, will have a Dept of
Ed monitor visit district sites
Also in MN Department of Ed Fiscal Monitoring
Looks at how we are spending special education money as well as
how we are tracking/coding money spent
District renovations
Paul updated the group on the almost completion of renovations - most
work is done with the exception of Waconia Learning Center
The group toured the new Birth-5 facility/classrooms
Parent Coffee by SEAC
Janette updated the group on progress - she will try to set up a date in
November
Paul has received good feedback and questions from other SpEd directors
- asking about what we do and possibly replicating

1. Explaining what it is, why its there and why its for a specific student and
not needed for all
Ideas/Discussion:
1. Transition Fair - similar to what T110 did but more inclusive/expand
vendors
2. Stigma 180: Waconia is scheduled to host during the 2018-2019 school
year
a) Thought is that Norwood/Young America, Watertown-Mayer, and
Chaska would travel to Waconia
3. New parent/staff members
a) Paul has had interested parents and some current members have
not made recent meetings
