Lesson: Introduction to Fitness October 23,2017

Grade 5
Outcomes Addressed:
K.2.5.A.1 - Identify health related components and one example of an appropriate
exercise/activity for each component.

Opportunities for Assessment:


FOR: Introduce the basic concepts of fitness and and show proper technique for some exercises

Teaching and Learning Activities:


Activating - students do their warm up (5 minutes)
Acquiring - talk about the 4 fitness components (muscular endurance, muscular strength, cardiovascular
endurance, & flexibility) (5 - 7 minutes)
Applying - have students go through all the exercises we will be doing on a regular basis with a
demonstration of the exercises by Mr. Curtis (10-15 minutes)

Differentiation of Instruction:
Verbal: explaining Instructions and the process of the unit
Visual: looking at the demonstration of the exercises
Kinaesthetic: students move amongst the different exercises
Interpersonal: work together with the partner to assess the proper technique
Intrapersonal: your own work ethic determines the benefits of fitness
