    There are several method of collecting primary data:-

    Observation method:

    observation method:- Observation method is a technique in which the


    behavior of research subjects is watched and recorded without
    any direct contact.

    Types and using of observation methods:

    This method can be used independently or in combination with other


    methods of job analysis. There are three methods of job analysis
    based on observation are: direct observation, work methods
    analysis, critical incident technique.

    a> Direct observation .

    This method observes employees in the performance of their duties,


    recording observations as they are made.

    Everything is observed:
    • What is the worker accomplishes?
    • What is equipment is used?
    • What the work environment is like?
    • Any other factors relevant to the job? etc

    b>Work methods analysis.

    This method is used to describe manual and repetitive production jobs


    and is used by industrial engineers to determine standard rates of
    production, to set pay rates.

    Work methods analysis includes time and motion study and micro-motion
    analysis.
    c> Critical incident technique

    Though they employ the same method, these methods differ in terms of

    The interview method of research, typically, involves a face-to-face


    meeting in which a researcher (interviewer) asks an individual a series of
    questions.

    What do I need to consider when doing interviews?

    • Prepare your interview questions in advance, and share them with


    the participant(s).
    • Tape record, or videotape record the interview.
    • Do not be afraid to ask questions if they arise during the interview,
    even if you did not have them listed before the interview.
    • After the interview, you will need to transcribe (copy) exactly what
    was said during the interview. This can be a very slow and time-
    consuming process, but it is critical that you copy exactly what was
    said.
    • After you have copied out the interview, replay the interview again
    and compare it to your notes. Make any corrections necessary.

    • Share the written copy of the interview with the participant to make
    sure that they

    3 Through questionnaire
    The questionnaire (also called survey) is a set of questions given to a
    sample of people. The purpose is to gather information about the people’s
    attitudes, thoughts, behaviors, and so forth. The researchers compile the
    answers of the people in the sample in order to know how the group as a
    whole thinks or behaves.

    Questionnaires are often used by people who do political or market


    research. For example, if a politician wanted to know what voters thought
    about a particular issue, he or she could do a survey. The survey would
    ask about the voters’ opinions related to the issue.
    A new business might want to send a questionnaire to potential
    customers, to see what people like. A restaurant could ask about people’s
    preferences for tastes, price, service, and restaurant appearance.

    Through schedules:
    Selecting from the set of minimum requirements. These values
    provide a building with the thermal insulation requirements for
    minimum acceptable energy efficiency.
    The Schedule Method maybe used where:
    · The buildings total area of glazing is 30% or less of its total wall area,
    and
    · The combined area of glazing on the East, West and South facing walls
    is 30% or
    less of the combined total wall area of these walls.
    · The replacement tables 1, 2(a), 2(b) and 3 provided in the H1
    Acceptable Solution list
    the R-Values required for the various types of construction and various
    parts of the
    building.
