URI DEM Black Duck Banding February 13, 2017

Handle water fowl and apply bands to leg. Collect clean and fold rocket net properly.

Primarily responsible for the daily maintenance of many of our exhibits throughout our facility. Volunteer Divers
work with many members of our Husbandry Staff in order to complete exhibit maintenance utilizing SCUBA.
Occupational diving requires well developed team work, with each worker assigned a task or a number of tasks as
part of their role. A working diver has to manage not only their own safety, but that of other members of the diving
team.

Pacific North West Exhibit Husbandry.

Burrillvile RI (June 8, 2017- November 17, 2017)
Use GPS systems to find calculated sites with a history of New England and Eastern Cottontail populations; Collect
and bottle scat of said species to be studied; Record all data collected from each survey site; Check traps, collect hair
samples, restock lures, set trail cameral and collect footage, sterilize equipment and deliver samples to lab.

Piping Plover Volunteer.

Rope off plover nesting sites on state beaches, survey for existing nest sites using scopes and binoculars.

Tern Habitat Restoration On Great Gull Island, NY. (September 23-25, 2016)
Dig and build terraces and clear vegetation for nesting sites. Collect and store equipment for next season. Secure all

AVS 343: Behavior of Domestic Animals

Examination of the basis for, and exhibition and control of, behavioral patterns of domestic animals. Design an
enclosure for polar bears given proper resources that reduces stereotypic behavior and promotes wellbeing of the
animal.

AVS 442: Marine Mammal Behavior And Physiology

students will spend time at the Mystic Aquarium (Mystic, CT) gaining experience with marine mammal research
techniques and working alongside marine mammalogists. Students will observe animal training sessions used for
research purpose, as well as aid in the collection, handling, and analysis of physiological samples and a marine
mammal necropsy. In Honduras at the Roatán Institute for Marine Sciences, students will engage in ongoing dolphin
behavior research under the guidance of Dr. Kathleen Dudzinski of the Dolphin Communication Project. Students
will also experience a different culture and discuss views on conservation.

FLM 101: Introduction to Film Media

Introduction to techniques of film practice, film history, genres, analysis of film texts, and reading of film images in
their aesthetic, cultural, and literary context

FLM 110: Introduction to Film Media Production Technologies

Introduction to single-camera field production styles and aesthetics with emphasis on camera operation, lighting and
editing by means of fundamental critical studies, field projects, studio supervision and experience.

FLM 491: Directed Studies in Film Media

Directed Study for students wanting to do advanced work in film media. Individual research and reports on
problems of special interest. Students will use very high-end digital video and audio equipment to document their
experience of diverse settings, such as tropical rainforests, ancient Mayan ruins, cultural events, and everyday
Belizean life. Student filmmakers will also have the opportunity to use various underwater cameras while snorkeling
on the Earth's second largest coral barrier reef. This course emphasizes developing documentary film making skills
by researching themes relating to environmental and economic sustainability as well as habitat conservation.

HDF 190: First Year Leaders Inspired to Excellence

Leadership development course focusing on leadership theories, personal and academic adjustment issues, civic
leadership and community service and basic communication skills.

NRS 100: Natural Resource Conservation

Introduction to humans' use and management of natural resources: land, food, forest, wildlife, water, minerals, and
air, with a survey of contemporary resource-use problems in environmental pollution.

NRS 223: Conservation Biology

Theory and application of ecology principles, ecosystem conservation and biological diversity; Designed/built a
working wind turbine from recycled parts to demonstrate the ease and importance of using renewable energy; create
influential video demonstrating environmental issues.

NRS 304: Field Ornithology

Identification, field study techniques, habitats, and basic biology of birds. Emphasis on field identification of local
species.

NRS 305: Principles of Wildlife Ecology and Management
