This document provides instructions for several batting skill practices for cricket, ranging from beginner to advanced levels. The practices include tapping a ball in the air, batting off a cone, dribbling a ball around a tee, drop and drive where the batter drops and hits a bouncing ball, pull and cut shots between cones, pepper where groups bat and bowl to each other continuously, bowling and batting with a partner, line up where batters run between markers after hitting, hit 4 and go where batters hit 4 balls and run, 6 or safe where batters choose single or six runs, and rapid fire where teams take turns batting and fielding across 8 cones. Proper technique elements like grip, stance, and follow

Proper technique elements like grip, stance, and follow
-Keep tapping the ball into the air with the bat for as long as possible as many times in a row
-TARGET BATTING OFF CONE (stage 1)
--TARGET BATTING OFF CONE -BATTING KTP’s : STEP, STOP SWING -“Show your sponsors” -V grip -non dominant hand at the top of the bat -Students in groups of 4, one batter, one waiter (puts the ball on the cone), and two fielders. -The two fielders stand beside the two cones that are set up in a V formation (10 metres away) -The batter will perform a “straight drive” that rolls along the ground, in between the markers. -The fielders retrieve the balls and collect them -The waiter student puts the ball on the cone for the batter -Once all balls have been hit (3 balls) , fielders bring the balls in and all students rotate positions Extension: stage 2 -Add 2 more cones to create 3 hitting zones -Batters must attempt to hit it in the zone that the fielders are not in -ADD SCORING: -points for getting it through zone -extra points for consecutive hits through zone -batter drops the ball from chin BATTING CHALLENGES (stage 1) -Dribble the ball up and back around tee like playing hockey -Hit the ball to self in air -Hit ball off tee as far as possible see how far you can get
DROP AND DRIVE (high stage 1)
-In pairs (or 3’s, 4’s depending on equipment). -Batter holds bat with hand closer to target and drops ball with other hand -The batter then steps to the ball attempting to hit it on the 2nd bounce: aiming to hit between markers
PULL SHOT/CUT SHOT ( stage 2)
-Two cones 10m away ( V Shape)from the wicket -The wicket has one stump, with a cone and ball on top -Two fielders, one batter, one waiter -CUT SHOT KTP’S -SHIFT, ELBOW, PIVOT, SWING -PULL SHOT KTP’s -BACK TO FIELDERS, WEIGHT OUTSIDE LEG, FOLLOW THROUGH, PIVOT -Batter has 3 turns, fielders collect the balls and waiter puts the ball on the cone -Rotates after 3 turns REGRESSIONS: -Bring the cones in closer EXTENSION: STAGE 3 -Add in wickets 2 batters: to make a run OR Fielders move back or forward and batter must judge their shots (decisions to run, YES/NO/WAIT -Add in zones for the batter -Add scoring for runs PEPPER (stage 2) -In groups of 4-5 -One batter (can do shots along ground, or in air) -Bowlers can bowl along ground or bounce -Batter returns the ball back to the bowler -Bowlers bowl consecutively after each other -Add scoring and compete against other groups
BOWLING AND BATTING WITH PARTNER (stage 2)
LINE UP THUNDER CRICKET (stage 2/ 3)
-Underarm ball to batter to start game -Position 2 markers at each side of the wicket forward of the batter(near batter = easy, further away more difficult -Each batter in turn aims to hit the ball between the foul markers and then run between the markers -A fielder collets ball -All others run and line up behind fielder -Ball is passed back until the last player in line has it -Last person then runs to touch stumps at bowlers end with ball to stop the batter running
HIT 4 AND GO ( stage 2/3)
-A batter hits 4 consequtive balls into the field and then runs between marker cones as many times as possible. When the fielders have returned all 4 balls, they call out STOP. (then swap batter) BATTING KTP’s : STEP, STOP SWING -Allows batters to practice their accuracy and find the free space 6 OR SAFE (stage 3) -The batting team has 6 hits off a tee. (one shot each) -Batters have the choice of running to a safe zone for 2 points or completing the round trip for 6 points. -Batters are out if they are caught or the ball gets back to the bowler before they make the safe zone or round trip -Fielders must return all balls back to bowler BATTING OFF TEE: -side on -v grip -step, stop, swing
RAPID FIRE: stage 3/4
-Two teams: one batting and one fielding
-8 cones with a ball on top, the batter moves along the cones and attempts to hit them passed the fielders who are behind the cones 20 metres away. The batters hit must stay in between the markers. -The fielders who are behind the cones 20 metres away can only go passed the cones once all the balls have been hit. -As the batter hits the balls, fielders can gather up the balls, however, they cannot go passed the markers until the batter has completed all 8 balls. -Once the batter has done so, they must run to the wicket and cone as many times as they can -Once all players have had a turn, swap roles (innings) –team with highest amount of runs win -(If a player gets caught out, lose 5 runs)
