Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this
interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.
Upon entering ninth grade, I decided to join the Environmental Science, Engineering and
Technology (ESET) academy in Carson High and be a member of the Go Green club. Each
year, ESET has granted me numerous opportunities that have guided me and shown me
direction. I was exposed to a variety of resources shown to me by teachers and students that
allowed me to explore deeper into the world of environmental science. In the tenth grade, I was
bestowed an Environmental Fellowship Award to go to the Teton Science School in Jackson
Hole, Wyoming for a week. In the course of seven days, I observed the environment and
learned more about what it would be like to work in the field as an environmental scientist. This
experience opened a multitude of doors, giving me networking opportunities and significantly
impacted me in deciding what career path to follow. It led me take AP Environmental Science,
where my passion for the natural environment increasingly grew. Through this class, my
knowledge grew as I absorbed information about the climate, energy, and how humans affect
these processes. I was inspired to make a difference in environmental issues and have since
given speeches and presentations about subjects that affect humans as a society. In junior
year, I attended an Earth Day seminar at Mayor Garcetti’s house where I spoke with passion
about environmental education.
After exhausting all available resources for ESET, I now share my experiences and
teach underclassmen about these opportunities as an ESET Ambassador. I create speeches
and presentations for the underclassmen in an effort to extend my knowledge and share my
passion with them. I have gained valuable information through all of these experiences and
have a more concrete idea of my goals in the future. Collectively, they have taught me more
about myself and has made me excited to be an environmental scientist whether I'm in the field
or in an office.
