INVOCATION

INTRODUCTION In the name of the Father, and of the (+)Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Jesus does great deeds of power and gives his disciples authority over
demons. Yet none of this power is unilateral; it all must be received by GATHERING SONG: Earth and All Stars! (ELW 731)

PRAYER UPON ENTERING THE PEW

Into your hands, almighty God, I place myself: my mind to know, my heart
to love, my will to serve you and all that you have made. Into your hands,
Lord Jesus, I place myself. Receive me and draw me with all people, that
we may follow in your steps. Abide in us and empower us with your Holy
Spirit. Into your hands, O Holy Spirit, I place myself. Fashion me with all
people into the image of Christ. Let your comfort strengthen us, your grace
renew us, your fire cleanse us, soul and body, in life and in death, in this
passing and changing world, and in your changeless world of light eternal,
both now and in eternity. Amen.
Lord Jesus Christ, you came to reveal God’s eternal and unfailing love for
all people.

Almighty God has given Christ Jesus to live and to die for us, and in his
name God forgives us all our sins. God the Father strengthen you with the

Let us pray. God of the covenant, in our baptism you call us to proclaim the
coming of your kingdom. Give us the courage you gave the apostles, that
we may faithfully witness to your love and peace in every circumstance of

A MESSAGE FOR OUR CHILDREN

FIRST READING: 2 Samuel 5:1-5, 9-10

Already king over Judah, the southern kingdom, David here is anointed
king over Israel, the northern kingdom, as well. Captured by David,
Jerusalem is chosen as the political and religious center for the new
combined territory. It is known ever after as “the city of David.”

SECOND READING: 2 Corinthians 12:2-10

Christians do not boast of their own accomplishments. Rather, Christian


boasting focuses attention on how the power of Christ is present in our
