1 Introducing ARJUN 30
ARJUN 30 is India`s first ultra light palmtop ultrasonic flaw detector which weighs only
800grams along with the battery, It can be easily operated with one hand and its
portability and compactness makes it unique in its type. ARJUN 30 comes with 5 inch
color WVGA LCD/TFT display with wide viewing angles. It has a 7.4 VDC, 4AH
lithium ion battery, which gives four hours of continuous operation on a single charge
and also additional extra battery is provided to enable back to back 8 hours of operation.
500 trace patterns and 50 setups can be easily stored and recalled for the reference
purpose in the ARJUN 30, it has a micro SD Card storage up to 8GB and a USB
communication port for easy data transfer to the computer.

3> Angle Beam Probe: This probe introduces ultrasound at an angle to the surface of
the test piece. In most angle beam probes,
the wave energy is mode converted from a
longitudinal wave to a shear wave by the
refraction principle. This probe is suitable for
inspection of the welds. The reason for this is
its ability to position the transducer/probe
away from the weld bead yet propagate energy
into the weld zone. Another reason to use angle
beam testing on the welds is to position the
sound beam more normal to the expected discontinuities since the flaws in welds are
usually perpendicular to the test piece (except porosity). Figure 3 shows the principle
of angled beam weld testing.

Three options are provided for transferring or viewing internal memory in PC.
A) USING SD CARD.
Insert a SD card inside ARJUN 30 save data you want to view or transfer in
PC from ARJUN 30 to SD card, eject the SD card from ARJUN 30 and
connect the SD card to the PC.
B) USING USB DSK.
Data from SD card can be visible directly in PC without ejecting the SD card
from ARJUN 30, by connecting ARJUN 30 to PC via USB cable
C) USING EXTERNAL USB DRIVES.
By Connecting a USB DRIVE to ARJUN 30 using a OTG cable, and
transferring or storing data to USB DSK in ARJUN 30 and then accessing
that PEN DRIVE in PC.
(NOTE: Internally stored memory cannot be directly transferred or accessed
in PC without inserting SD card or USB drives.)

PRESS/ENTER : Parameter will be changed to “T-L” when DAC is ON
. Gain of machine can be change without affecting curve height.
It can be used for Transfer/Scanning gain correction.
Example: To digitally draw DAC curve to join four peaks of the echo signals using
25mm thick reference block and range of 100mm.
Set Gain so that all four peaks are visible on the LCD screen above 50% FSH.
Set DAC to DRAW using PERA UP/DN keys in DAC in MENU 5.
Move cursor using PERA UP/DN keys in START a to cover the first echo. If
GATE 1 is OFF then switch to PLOGIC.
Press PERA UP/DN key in ENTER to accept it and Point No. will be incremented
automatically.
Repeat above two steps for second, third and forth echo.
Set DAC to ON using PERA UP/DN key in DAC. Now DAC Curve will be
displayed on LCD.
Note: Cursor need not touch the echo for selection and acceptance of the peak point.

> Select MEASURE POSITION, MEAPOS1 and MEAPOS2 to ON.
> Set GATE 1 to “PLOGIC”
> Couple probe on reference defect and set gain value so echo height within 40 to 60% of
Screen.
> Set GATE 1 in such a way so echo signal within GATE.
> Then turn SET REF to ON so required gain to bring echo to 50% is recorded and
displayed as a REF Gain in GAIN box.
> Set AWS to MEASURE so it starts to display Indicating rating as per AWS code.
Indication rating is based below formula.
IR=IL-RG-AF
IL : Indicating Level… its gain value to bring echo height to reference level (50%).
RG : Reference Gain.. Its Gain value to bring reference echo height to reference
level(50%)
AF : Attenuation Factor… its attenuation of signal in material as per AWS standard.
Based on below formula.
AF= (Sound path (in Inch) -1) * 2
IR : Indicating Rating… Its different in dB between the indication signal and reference
signal with attenuation correction.

6 Power Supply
ARJUN 30 is powered by a Lithium-Ion battery pack MB-1, which is fitted in
ARJUN 30 using two half screws. It is electrically connected to ARJUN 30 via one
internal terminal contact point. With fully charged battery pack MB-1, ARJUN 30
can operate continuously for Eight hours. The battery pack MB-1 can be charged
inside ARJUN 30 by connecting Battery charger AC-1 to the connector (22). Also
dock station ABC 1 is provided for charging battery pack outside ARJUN 30 which
allows uninterrupted use of ARJUN 30.
Battery Charging
The battery Charger AC-1 supplied with ARJUN 30 is a special quick- charge
charger. The charging time is just 3 to 3 ½ hours. AC-1 battery charger is suitable for
use with mains supply from 100 to 240 volts AC/50 Hz. The LED on charger
illuminates to indicate power on. When the battery voltage is low (discharge
condition) it will indicate by beep Sound and blinking of battery Indicator. When the
battery is in charging condition LED Indicator on Arjun30 glows green, And in fully
charged condition green LED light shuts off.
