Lesson Plan For Mesa Camp:: Introduction To Arduino by Treobytes

The document provides a lesson plan to introduce students to Arduino through building simple circuits, a robotic arm, and assembling a small robot. Students will learn about circuitry, coding, and applications of Arduino. The plan involves introductions, presentations on Arduino basics, hands-on activities like an LED circuit and robotic claw, and programming a robot using block coding.

Introduction to Arduino by Treobytes

Overview Objectives: Students will be able to give specific instructions and sequence
instructions to achieve simple objectives. Students will be able to understand the circuitry and
code that goes into using an Arduino. Students will also be taught the applications of an
Arduino.

Lesson Background: In this lesson students, will be introduced to two concepts that will create
a foundation for understanding mathematical properties and technical fluency. We will explore
the hardware aspect of robotics as well as the software behind simple robotics. Students will
learn circuitry through a simple led circuit, then they will construct a robotic arm using the
knowledge they gained for Arduino circuitry and some intuition. They will then finish by
assembling an Arduino run robot.

Lesson Resources/Materials: Computer, Mouse, Arduino Nano, Arduino Uno, Little Bot Kit
Parts, LED, Parts for Robot Arm (might be better to do only a claw).

Learning Terms/Concepts: Manufacturing and Engineering Design, mathematical properties and

technical fluency.

Lesson Plan for Mesa Camp:

1. Introduce the Facilitators and students (15 mins)
2. Intro to Arduino and Basic Circuit Laws (15 mins)
3. Basic LED Circuit Design (20 min)
4. Servos and Robot Arm/ Claw (60 mins)
5. Little Bot Construction (30 mins)
6. Intro to App and Arduino Block Coding (45 mins)
Introductions –
Meet your Facilitator:
Facilitator introduces himself/herself to the class. Include any fun facts about yourself and how
you are so excited to facilitate the group. Explain to students that you are a learner along with
them. If you do not know something you will tell the students, “I do not know that YET”. There
are 20 (however many children in the room) teachers in this room and we are going to learn so
much from each other.
