A. Project Data
Location: Sydney, Australia
This section of the rail tunnel passed through a national park and was originally proposed as
a bridge. Due to community concerns they decided to tunnel below the national park. Cut
and cover was the proposed method as the tunnel roof was just below the river bed.
Constructed in three stages and three separate sections, the base, the walls and the roof.
B. Requirements
▪ Supply the roof form and walls
▪ Forming up the soffit completely in spite of sloping roof and over 2.0m deep edge
Sloping floor at the edges
C. System in use
1. TRIO Pannel Formwork
Overview
TRIO is the universal formwork system for all applications where the main focus
is on reducing the shuttering times with conventional DW tie technology. With
the BFD coupler for virtually all connections as well as many other practical system
solutions, TRIO has successfully proven itself in countless projects around the
world. TRIO can be used together with the more advanced MAXIMO panel
formwork. A large range of accessories, such as the BFD Coupler or MXK Bracket
System, can be used in both systems.
Easy and simple connections
with the BFD Alignment Coupler as the only component for all panel connections
Fast working operations
with only a minimum of panel widths as well as panels that can be used both
horizontally and vertically
Large-area shuttering
with standard panels up to 3.30 m x 2.40 m – providing a high level of surface
evenness and only 2 tie positions
Technical Details
- Flexibly used panel formwork for fast working operations, compatible with
MAXIMO panel formwork
- Panel heights up to 3.30 m, panel widths up to 2.40 m (standard system)
- Maximum permissible fresh concrete pressure: 80 kN/m²
- Can be used with DW 15 and DW 20 tie systems
- Flush, aligned and tight connections with the BFD Alignment Coupler –
including filler timber compensations up to 10 cm
- Simple cleaning operations due to the powder-coated frame
Extended Programme
TRIO Aluminium
Lightweight formwork for crane-independent working; easily distinguishable by
its yellow powder coating
TRIO Structure
TRIO panels with a free choice of formlining for special concrete surface
requirements – supplied already pre-assembled
TRIO Housing
▪ Conically-shaped ties installed from one side on the ground
▪ Element with securely mounted working platforms and push-pull props
▪ Formlining screwed on at the rear
TRIO shaft element
With the TRIO shaft element, complete shaft internal formwork can be moved
quickly; the all-round striking clearance is 30 mm.
MXK Bracket System
The MXK Bracket System serves as a working platform on MAXIMO and TRIO. The
modular design and lightweight, manually-assembled system components ensure
fast installation and a high level of costeffectiveness. In contrast to conventional
solutions, the modular system provides pre-assembled individual components,
e.g. the MXK Scaffold Deck or PROKIT PMB Side Mesh Barrier.
Technical Details
- Girder slab formwork consisting of main and cross beams for the formlining
of choice
- Project-specific selection of the formwork girders and their spacing
- For slab thicknesses of up to 100 cm with GT 24 Formwork Girders, for slab
thicknesses up to 50 cm with VT 20K Formwork Girders
- Adapting the individual component weights in accordance with the
boundary conditions
- Free choice of shoring
- No infill areas due to project-specific planning
- Tilt-resistant support of the cross beams on the main beams through the
use of Flexclips
D. Solution
- Special sheer brackets to support the edges, a combination of Multiprops, ST100,
compression braces and multiflex for the roof
- TRIO and the Multiprop shoring for the walls
