Analysis of Urine and Body Fluids laboratory manual contains activities which have been
sensibly designed and logically formulated to facilitate learning from the various discussions in
the lecture. The activities have been carefully selected, simplified and ingenuously made to
emulate the procedures and processes in the clinical laboratory prior to clinical internship.
However, it is to be noted that most of the procedures stated will depend on the available
materials, equipment and reagents provided for by the institution’s laboratory.
To enhance the retention of important facts about Clinical Microscopy, the pre-laboratory
discussions and the learning contents in every activity have been enhanced by sourcing
information from different reference books available. Therefore, students are encouraged to read,
understand and learn from this academic output.
It is aimed that one laboratory meeting will suffice for the Physical and the Chemical
examination of urine and a more extensive training for the Microscopic examination enabled since
the latter is the core of Urine Analysis.
Learning activities on Analysis of other Body Fluids are patterned according to standard
procedures applied on the actual practice of laboratory science to provide students a clear
overview and comprehensive explanation of the different methodologies. Thus, it is expected that
students will ultimately develop technical skills after performing the different experiments. For
student’s self- rationalization, post laboratory sheets with guide questions are given at the end of
every activity.
