Well, plants, like animals, need oxygen to (5) released energy from their
food. At night plants take in oxygen an (6) give off carbon dioxide. As the sun rises,
the process of photosynthesis begins. During the day the plants take in carbon
dioxide, water and sunlight. The plant uses the (7) energy from sunlight to split
water into hydrogen and oxygen, and carbon dioxide into carbon and oxygen. The
carbon, hydrogen, and some of the (8) oxygen then join to make a type of sugar
called glucose, and the left over oxygen is released. The glucose is carried around
the plant. Some (9) glucose is used for energy and to help the plant grow. The
glucose that is not used is joined together to make starch and stored for (10) later
use.
B. Answer the questions based on the text in task A for ?
1. What is photosynthesis ?
The plant uses the energy from sunlight to split water into hydrogen and
oxygen, and carbon dioxide into carbon and oxygen

There are over 2500 different (1) species of mosquitoes throughout the
world. Each of the species has a latin scientific name. These names are used in a
descriptive manner so the (2) name tells something about the particular mosquito.
The mosquito goes through four separate and distinct stages of its (3) life
cycle and they are as follows : egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Each of these (4) stages
can be easily recognize by their special appearance. Egg : eggs are laid one at a
time and they float on the surface of the water. In the case of culex and culiseta
species, the eggs are stuck together in rafts of a hundred or more eggs. Anopheles
and aedes species do not make egg rafts but (5) lay their eggs separately. Culex,
culiseta and anopheles lay their eggs on water while aedes lay their eggs on (6)
damp soil that will be flooded by water. Most eggs hatch into larvae within 48
hours. Larva : the larvae live in the water and come to the surface to breathe. They
shed their skin four times growing larger after each molting. Most larvae have
siphon tubes for (7) breathing and hang from the water surface. Anopheles larvae
do not have a siphon and they lay parallel to the water surface. The larva feed on
micro-organisms and organic matter in the water. On the fourth molt the larva (8)
changes into a pupa. Pupa : the pupa stage is a resting, non-feeding stage. This is
the time the mosquito turns into an adult. It takes about two days before the adult is
fully developed. When the development is complete, the pupa skin splits and the
mosquito (9) emerges as an adult. Adult : the newly emerged adult rests on the
surface of the water for a short time to allow itself to dry and all its parts to harden.
Also, the (10) wings have to spread out and dry properly before it can fly.
2. How many stages of life does a mosquito undergo ? what are they ?
3. Dona and her friends have waited for silva at the railway station for about one

Long term marijuana use leads to an addiction. The short term effects of
marijuana addiction can include problems with memory and learning, difficulty in
thinking and problem solving, loss of coordination and increased the possibility of
developing cancer of the head or neck. Marijuana use also has the potential to
promote cancer of the lungs and others part of the respiratory tract because it
contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than does tobacco
smoke. Depression anxiety and personality diaturbances have been associated with
marijuana addiction. Students who smoke marijuana get lower grades and are less

Seasons happen and change every year. This happens because the earth tilts
back and forth as it goes around the sun. During the summer, the earth tilts toward
the sun. it makes half of the earth hotter. This condition is what we call summer.
During the half of the year, the earth tilts away from the sun. As a result, it makes
that halfof the earth cooler. This cool condition is then what we call winter.
The different parts of the world have the same season at different times. In
the the northern half of the world, winter happens during the months of december,
january, and february. The regions are such north america and europe. On the other
hand, the southern half of the world has winter during the months of june, july, and
august. The regions are like south america nad australia. How does this difference
happen ? the same season happens at different times because the top and bottom
halves of the earth tilt awaybfrom the sun at different times.
