The Game of Kings/Victorious

(Chess as a purely intellectual game, where randomness is excluded)

Game is essential for every human being in order to keep mind healthy, or we can say that game is an
exercise for mind, to refresh it. There are number of game around the world they vary from nation to
nation, culture to culture and country to country, though there are many games but chess is one of the
most important game for the development and freshness of mind, it helps people improve their critical
abilities and thinking. This game also symbolizes unity of group or team and demonstrates the
significances of unity .Someone has rightly said, ‘Living together is one move closer to living apart “.

The game of chess became popular in Europe around fifteen century .This is a game between two
opposite sides of a board ,which have sixty-four squares of alternating colors. Two players are part of
game e and each have sixteen pieces, one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knight and eight
pawns, target of this game is to checkmate the king .It happen when the king is in a position to get
capture. Each player has light color square in the bottom right hand side ,then pawns stand in the
second row, rooks move to the corners and queen goes on her own matching color (white queen on
white square and black queen on black square),last king stands next to queen. In this game player
having the white pieces always moves first later followed by black. Each piece moves differently, they
cannot move through each other and even cannot move onto a square having their own pieces, but they
have right to move at the place of opponent’s place for the sake of capturing. Pieces in chess move in
order to capture opposite piece by landing on their square or place and later replace them and help
their own pieces if they get capture.

Most important is king but it always moves only one square in any direction, it is consider to be weakest.
Then there is queen extremely powerful having right to move in any one straight direction and she does
not move through any of her own piece her move gets over if she captures an opponent’s piece. The
rooks can move as far as he wants but moving forward, backward or towards sides. Pawn are extremely
different one ,they move forward but captures diagonally ,they have right to move one square at a time
except their first move in which they can move two squares having no right of moving backwardness ,
can also capture one square diagonally if encounter other piece directly then they are helpless. Whereas
knight is interesting he moves in shape of letter L ,two square in one direction then one more move at
the side just to mark ninety degree angle and most important feature is that they are the only one
having right to move over other pieces. Bishops always stays on his color ,from which he starts, moving
as far as he wishes but only diagonally, important characteristic is that he works together to cover each
other weakness.

Chess is also known as the game of kings, since it helps in number of ways not only the ruling one but
the common one also. According to one research, movement of knight and rooks help to increase
person’s intelligence quotient. The New England Journal of Medicine published that people over seventy
five and are engage in brain stretching activities such as playing chess hardly develop dementia than
those who do not play such acivities.German researchers come up with statement that ,chess experts
left brain is more active as compared with right.
Since human right hemisphere has strong link with creativity, chess players have good sense of creativity
because chess greatly increases originality. Chess players have good memory due to the game which
helps people to improve their memory.Dr.Stuart Margoles study shows that ,chess help it players in
improving reading habits.

Reality is chess have great power to combine scattered pieces. It helps the players in intense
concentration that the game demands, looking away for second or lost in thought can be the cause of
defeat, every second and every move is important since things can change in a blink of an eye.

John Wolfgang von Goethe wrote,’’ Daring ideas are like chessmen moved forward. They may be
beaten, but they may start a winning game.’’
