Section B-SAFETY
B-SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1 ) GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Observe the following safety precautions when handling this unit. This equipment operates with
dangerous voltages and currents.
• All electrical installations and connections are to be carried out only by skilled personnel.
• When outfitting operating rooms as well as setting up and operating electrical equipment follow the
relevant national and international safety instructions and regulation.
• When setting up the rack observe the relevant safety precautions for the prevention of accidents.
These precautions especially relate to: danger of getting crushed when working with loads, danger
of falling off ladders while working, danger of getting hurt or injured when lifting heavy loads.
• Always disconnect power before opening covers or removing any part or module of this amplifier
unit.
• Prior to checking out or working on the switch mode supply, disconnect all the R.F. power
amplifiers.
• Some of the R.F. power amplifier transistors are encased in Beryllium Oxide (BeO). This substance
is harmless as is, but becomes very dangerous if ground to a powder. These devices, once failed,
cannot be disposed of by normal means and special procedures of disposal must be observed.
• In any case, but especially when the RF Power Amplifier is operating, do not attempt to remove
and then re-insert the rear panel coaxial interconnecting cables of the EXCITER. Although
suitable protection circuitry is in place, sudden loss and re-application of RF drive causes
transients that may damage one or more RF amplification stages.
Power Supply
Prior to connecting power supply ensure that the A.C. line data on the product matches the data of the
available supply. Fuses or other devices in the supply circuit must guarantee overload and short-circuit
protection.
3 ) RF HAZARDS
In the amplifier, high-energy R.F. circuits are fed through common R.F. connectors (eg N). Depending
on the output power, the amplifier outputs are fitted with screw-in R.F. lines or waveguides.
CAUTION!
If R.F. lines which are in operation are disconnected, electric arcs may be generated and cause burns
and eye injuries.
3. Never put the amplifier into operation when R.F. lines are open-circuited.
4 ) FIRE RISK
There is a risk of fire presented by any live electrical if there is sufficient energy conversion which is the
case with radio transmitters.
Preventive measures on-site can reduce fire hazards to a large extent and effectively reduce the fire
spreading.
CAUTION!
4. On installing the transmitter, the user shall ensure that no combustible materials are store ro fitted
beneath or above the cable entry.
Firefighting must be performed only with special equipment (eg breathing apparatus with air bottle) in
order to avoid inhalation of harmful fumes, gases and dust produced by combustion.
CAUTION!
Parts made from BeO ceramics shall not be machined, scored, crushed, broken, heated nor
sandblasted. BeO dust passes through all common filtering system including conventional apparatus
filters.
Parts made from BeO ceramics shall not be opened nor destroyed.
DO NOT TOUCH THE VICTIM WITH YOUR BARE HANDS UNTIL THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT IS BROKEN.
SWITCH OFF. If this is not possible, PROTECT YOURSELF with DRY insulating material and pull the
victim clear of the conductor. If breathing has stopped indicated by UNCONSCIOUSNESS, LACK OF
RESPIRATORY MOVEMENTS and a “BLUE “ LOOK to CHEEKS, LIPS, EARS and NAILS, START
RESUSCITATION AT ONCE, as directed below.
Figure 1
One of the following may now happen:
• Breathing may begin and consciousness return.
• Breathing may begin, but be NOISY, which means that the airways
are not fully clear. Try to clear the airways.
Figure 3
• Turn your head away and take another breath, watching for his
chest to FALL (Figure. 4).
• Start with four quick deep breaths and then continue with one breath every five seconds (i.e. 12
times a minute). This should be continued until the victim revives or a doctor certifies death.
• As consciousness returns, the victim will start to breathe on his own and a “PINK” colour will replace
the “BLUE” look. This is the time to stop resuscitation. Continue to hold his chin up so to keep the
airways clear. In the case of injuries to the mouth,
mouth it may be necessary to use mouth-to nose
resuscitation. Seal the victim’s mouth with your cheek and blow firmly into his nose, proceeding as
above. In any case IT IS ESSENTIAL TO COMMENCE RESUSCITATION WITHOUT DELAY and TO
SEND FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IMMEDIATELY.
• If possible, alleviate the pain from the burnt part by immersing in cold water.
• If help is available, or as soon as resuscitation is no longer required, the wounds should be covered
with a DRY clean dressing.
• Oil and/or grease, in any form, SHOULD NOT be applied. If severely burnt, get the victim to
hospital immediately.

I - INTRODUCTION
ETL0700TA is the Transmitter Supervisor & Controller unit of EuroTel transmitters. It is used in Dual Drive
systems (ETL0700TA-02) and in transmitter unit composed by paralleled amplifiers (ETL0700TA).
ETL0700TA is used in both TV Transmitter and FM Transmitter, the operating principle is in fact the
same, what changes is the software setting.
When used in dual drive system, ETL0700TA presents an internal R.F. coaxial switch that, added to the
logic changeover, provides an automatic exchange of the running exciter module in the system. Logic
changeover can be controlled in remote mode and also provides a series of data signals related to the
transmitter status. The logic manages the changeover both in manual and automatic mode in a
completely safe manner disabling the transmitter before executing the changeover of the coaxial switch.
Furthermore, the ETL0700TA Transmitter Supervisor & Controller monitors and controls all amplifiers
parameters and collects samples of forward and reflected power at the output of the transmitter system.
The controller module, through a “CAN BUS” line named serial E-LINK, establish a bidirectional
communication with all the amplifier and exciter modules of the transmitter unit.

D-OPERATING INFORMATION
I - CHANGEOVER LOGIC
1 ) Operation theory
The ETL0700TA Supervisor & Controller operates in the following modes:
• Automatic mode:
Selecting the automatic operation mode, the exciter module actually connected to the antenna
becomes the preferential exciter module. When an alarm condition occurs on the preferential exciter
module and the reserve exciter module is not in an alarm status, the changeover takes place and
the reserve exciter is connected to the antenna.
• Manual mode:
The position of the coaxial switch is selected by using the menu voice “Prefer.Unit.Cfg
Prefer.Unit.Cfg”
Prefer.Unit.Cfg (“ Prefer.
Exciter “ for FM model) of the ETL0700TA Supervisor & Controller module. This operation can be
done in local mode or via remote controls in remote mode of operation.
The position of the R.F. coaxial switch appears on the main page of the ETL0700TA display.

When the preferential exciter presents an alarm condition that continues for longer than the time set in
the menu voice “Chang.alrm
Chang.alrm delay”,
delay the changeover logic enables the reserve exciter connected to the
dummy load. Reserve exciter remains enabled for a time equal to the value set in the menu voice “Chg Chg
tst enab dly”.
dly If during this time the reserve exciter doesn't present alarm conditions, the changeover
takes place. Both the exciters are disabled and the reserve exciter is connected to the antenna. The
exciter currently connected to the antenna is now enabled.
Once the changeover is done the logic remains in the current position until a restoring occurs.
To restore the changeover logic to the starting condition after an automatic changeover is occurred, is
necessary to set the manual operation mode.
The recovery can be done in two ways:
⇒ Selecting automatic operation mode by using the SELECT button in the main page of the
display in local mode or using the remote control “Manual/Automatic
Manual/Automatic”
Manual/Automatic for remote control
mode. In this way the exciter connected to the antenna becomes the preferential exciter.
⇒ Giving the restoring command via the menu “Restore Restore Chgover”
Chgover in local mode or using the
remote control “Restore
Restore Chgover”
Chgover for remote control mode. In this way the preferential
exciter is still the one that was initially connected to the antenna before the changeover and
this exciter is reconnected to the antenna.

output power of the transmitter is switched off.
If the controller can establish a communication with one of the amplifier module via the E-Link bus Serial
Network, on the display will appear the position of the module and the message “E-Link warning” will
also appear.
2 ) Warning LED
The yellow WARNING LED is normally dark. It turns on to indicate that one or more operating
parameters have risen above the normal limiting values. This LED blinks if some past warnings and
alarms are stored in the EEPROM non volatile memory of the microprocessor, when the blinking is more
evident it means that the connection between the E-Link and one or more amplifier module is missing.
To clear this LED the alarm and warning memories have to be cleared. This can be done only during
normal operation and when no warning or alarm conditions exist. To clear the memories, proceed as
follows.

This socket can be used to integrate an additional external interlock in the system.
To enable the Transmitter unit, interlock loop requires that pin 4 and pin 5 of INTERLOCK socket are
shorted together. At the same time also pin 8 and pin 9 must be shorted together. If the contact between
pins 4-5 and pins 8-9 is interrupted, Interlock acts disabling the Transmitter unit.
Customer can use pins 4-5 and pins 8-9 to integrate an additional interlock system.
If no customer additional interlock is needed, this socket must be connected to the dummy plug
provided. Dummy plug is already connected when the equipment is shipped.
