    Allocating Additional Retail Liquor Stores

    Backgrounder

    Additional retail liquor stores in


    Saskatchewan will be allocated based on the Maximum number
    population of the community. Communities Population of
    must have a minimum population of 500 in retail liquor stores
    order to be eligible for a retail liquor store
    and there will be a maximum of 40 liquor 500-1,000 1
    stores in a community with 275,000 people. 1,001-2,500 2
    2,501-5,000 3
    Based on current population statistics, some 5,001-10,000 4
    communities will be eligible for additional 10,001-15,000 5
    retail stores while others will not. 15,001-20,000 6
    20,001-27,500 7
    The process to allocate a new liquor store 27,501-35,000 8
    will only be triggered if interest is expressed 35,001-42,500 9
    in a community where there is at least one 42,501-50,000 10
    available retail liquor permit. 50,001-57,500 11

    In such cases, an online auction will be used 222,501-230,000 34
    with the highest bidder receiving the 230,001-237,500 35
    opportunity to apply for the permit, subject 237,501-245,000 36
    to also meeting qualifications of holding a 245,001-252,500 37

    Auctions will initially take place quarterly. 267,501-275,000 40
    Notices will be sent to community officials,
    advertised in the local newspaper and posted on SLGA’s website prior to an auction
    beginning.
