FM 200

This document provides the testing and commissioning methodology for an FM 200 fire suppression system. It outlines applicable codes and standards, health and safety precautions, and the objective to produce a safe and effective system. The design criteria requires a minimum 7% FM 200 concentration maintained for 10 minutes. The methodology describes pre-commissioning checks and testing the control panel in normal, trouble, and alarm states. It also details activating smoke detectors to trigger the time delay and discharge of FM 200 agent, and how to use the abort station to reset the time delay.

at all times at site in accordance with the site safety requirements.
4. Site working area will be kept in a clean and tidy manner after any work activities
have been carried out.
5. Morning Tool Box Meeting shall be held daily at site, detailing potential hazards
associated with the work, and implement necessary action, thereby minimizing or
eliminate hazard exposure to workers
6. Prefer to attach idea hazard analysis to refuse in the above installation work.

C. OBJECTIVE

This method statement details the proper Testing & Commissioning of FM 200 Clean Agent
Fire Suppression System..
These requirements, which are in accordance with the items listed in Section
A, combined with good engineering practices, shall be followed in order to produce a safe
and effective FM 200 Fire Suppression System.

D. SYSTEM DESIGN CRITERIA

A. A total flooding clean agent fire extinguishing system, employing FM
200, shall be installed to meet a minimum design concentration of 7%
by volume in all designated spaces to be protected.
B. 85% of the minimum design concentration shall be maintained for 10-
minutes or a sufficiently longer period of time to allow effective
emergency action by trained personnel.
C. Activation of the FM 200 Extinguishing System is via crossed-zoned or
counting-zoned detection

E. TESTING TOOLS & EQUIPMENT

o Smoke Check/Canister
o Multi-tester
o Ladder
o Two way Radio
o PPE
o Hand Tools (i.e. Pliers, Screw Driver, etc...)
o Safety Hand Gloves
o Other suitable safety precautions and protective gear in compliance with the
occupational safety codes.

F. PRE-COMMISSIONING CHECKLIST (VISUAL INSPECTION)

o Check the approved plans & drawings and make sure that all Novec1230
devices are installed accordingly.
o Check if the Cylinder/s is/are properly installed
o Cylinder and Mechanical piping system has properly installed
supports/brackets
o Discharge nozzle/s are properly install in the correct manner and w/ no
obstruction for proper discharge
o Releasing Panel is properly installed and operational
o Smoke detectors are properly installed and operational
o Audible and Visual Alarm are installed properly, operational & free from
obstruction
o Manual Pull Station/Abort Station are installed properly, operational & free
from obstruction
o Mechanical Piping system are w/ accordance with international & local
standards & properly painted w/ international red paint
o Electrical conduit and box are properly installed

G. TESTING & COMMISSIONING METHODOLOGY

Note:
 Physically disconnect all the Electric Control Head from the FM 200
Cylinder.
 Inform the in-charge personnel before the testing and commissioning
 Inform other trade i.e. BMS, Door Access, PACU, HVAC vendor before the
testing & commissioning
1. FM 200 System Control Panel Operating Mode

1.1 Normal Standby Mode

 The green AC ON LED is the only illuminated LED.
 The buzzer and NACs are silent.
 The programmable relays are de-energized.
 The trouble relays are energized.

1.2 Trouble Signal State

 trouble LED will flash
 control panel LED will lit
 internal buzzer sounds

2. FM 200 Alarm Condition

2.1 First Alarm Condition

 Activate Zone 1 or Zone 2 Smoke Detector in the protected area
(Via Smoke Check)
o RED Alarm LED on the control panel will lit
o Control Panel Internal Buzzer pulses
o FM 200 Alarm Bell will activate to notify personnel w/in the vicinity

o Control Panel Detector Circuit Zone LED will lit

o Interfacing w/ BMS/Door Access (if any) will activate

 What to do during First Alarm Condition

o Press the “Acknowledge” key to change the Alarm LED from
flashing to steady and to silence the internal buzzer.
o Press “Signal Silence” key to silence the Audible Devices
o Check the protected area for possible smoke or fire
o If the protected area & Smoke Detector is clear and free of smoke,
