I. INTRODUCTION

Vegetables play an important role in providing quality food and nutritional


security as well as poverty alleviation. They are embedded with vitamins, proteins,
minerals, carbohydrates and fibers. The specific climatic condition of the Philippines
offers great potential for the development of the vegetable industry. High productivity
and successful cultivation of vegetable crops depend mainly on good quality nursery and
planting materials. Vegetable productivity can also be increased through the adoption of
hybrid varieties and improved production technology.

II. OBJECTIVE

To establish a low cost, bamboo-made nursery where good quality seeds will be
produced to achieve higher vegetable yield.

Estimated Project Cost: 5,500 php

Project Duration: 6 months

III. METHODOLOGY

A. Establishment of the nursery

The nursery will be constructed using bamboos as support, insect proof net to
cover the nursery area and prevent the entry of insects and pests, tie wires, and ropes.

B. Seedlings production

Seedlings will be produced using trays. The seedlings to be produced and raised
include okra, stringed beans, egg plant, and tomato.

C. Raising and Management

 The seedling trays will be filled with soil with natural fertilizer.
 The trays will be kept until the seeds begin to sprout.
 The trays will be slightly irrigated every day.
 Spraying of water soluble fertilizer will also be done to enhance the growth of the
seedlings.
 The trays will also be covered to protect it from rain.
 The seeds will be kept for 4-5 weeks before it can be transplanted to the main
field.

IV. BUDGET UTILIZATION

1. Purchase of materials for the erection of the framework and for the laying of the
foundation.
2. Purchase of insect proof net.
3. Purchase of seeds, fertilizers, and other planting materials.
4. Care and maintenance of the seedlings.
