“Salt”
AGE: 75/76
Salting is a method of preserving food that was more common before modern refrigeration.
Salting preserve food by drawing water out of the food, preventing bacteria growing and spoiling
the food.
Salt has been used as a preservative for ages, and works to preserve food in two ways;
Superstitious beliefs
7 rich with a variety of elementals, from giants smoking tobacco, to small, grumpy, old
men living in anthills. Among the most practiced is the saying of “tabi-tabi po” (excuse
me) when passing through places where elementals are likely to dwell.

First clean the injured part use the alcohol and cotton. After that slit a little in part of
bite of dog for pop out the black or dirty blood in short rabies from dog, when you
push to out the dirty blood clean again and rub the wood called it “SUMA”. After you
rubbing suma put it on the 1 cup of water and drink it because that is a medicine.
Lastly rub again of suma to put in injured part cover by cotton and tie for didn’t pop
off.

“Burong Kamyas”

The method that they used in preserving food is what they called “BURONG
KAMYAS”, it is a method putting of some salt and leave it for all night!, this is there
common method that they using in the past years, this is the way of preserving food in
their own way. They using this method for preserving food, to last it in a couple of days
or sometimes weeks.
Superstitious beliefs
Black cats;, they believe that if you are walking and black cats are near on you, some bad
events are going to happened to you.
Breaking a mirror; they believe in a breaking mirror sets up for 7 years of bad luck.
Mirrors were thought to be reflections of the soul.so breaking a mirror was believed to be
harmful to the soul.
They preserving the practiced of saying PO and OPO to our elder in sign of being
courteous or respect.
1. What is indigenous science?
Traditional knowledge include types of knowledge about traditional technologies of
subsistence (e.g. tools and techniques for hunting or agriculture), midwifery, ethno
botany and ecological knowledge, traditional medicine, celestial navigation,
ethnoastronomy,climate, and others. This kind of knowledge, crucial for subsistence and
survival, are generally based on accumulations of empirical observation and on
interaction with the environment.
3. What is the role of indigenous science in the development of science and technology in our
community?
“The Goal” according to the indigenous Permaculture, “is to share information, build
relationships, and establish a local, organic food source for residents, inspired by indigenous
peoples’ understanding of how to live in place.”
Throughout history, Indigenous peoples have been responsible for the development of many
technologies and have substantially contributed to science. Approaches to gathering that
knowledge are culturally relative together, they contribute substantially to modern science.
