INTRODUCTION OF E-COMMERCE

The term "Electronic commerce" (or e-Commerce) refers to the use of an

electronic medium to carry out commercial transactions. Most of the time, it
refers to the sale of products via Internet, but the term eCommerce also
covers purchasing mechanisms via Internet (for B-To-B).
A client who purchases on the Internet is called a cyberconsumer. E-
Commerce is not only limited to online sales, but also covers:
 Preparation of estimates online
 Consulting of users
 Provision of an electronic catalog
 Access plan to point of sales
 Real-time management of product availability (stock)
 Online payment
 Delivery tracking
 After-sales service

In certain cases, electronic commerce makes it possible to highly

customize products, in particular when the electronic commerce site is
linked with the production system of the enterprise (e.g. business cards,
customized items such as T-shirts, cups, caps, etc.)
Finally, insofar as electronic services and products are concerned
(MP3 files, software programs, e-books, etc.), electronic commerce makes
it possible to receive the purchase in a very short time, if not immediately.

Online stores
Most electronic commerce sites are online stores which have at least the
following elements at the front-office level:
 An online electronic catalog listing all products for sale, their price and
sometimes their availability (product in stock or number of days before
delivery);
 A search engine which makes it possible to easily locate a product via
search criteria (brand, price range, key word, etc.) ;
 A virtual caddy system (sometimes called virtual cart): This is the heart
of the e-commerce system. The virtual caddy makes it possible to trace
the purchases of the client along the way and modify the quantities for
each reference;
 Secure online payment (accounting) is often ensured by a trusted third
party (a bank) via a secure transaction;
 An order tracking system, which allows tracking of order processing
and sometimes provides information on pickup of the package by the
shipper.
A back office system allows the online dealer to organize its offerings
online, modify prices, add or remove product references as well as manage
and handle client orders.
RELEVANCE OF E-COMMERCE

 These days, the business industry is more competitive than ever.

There are all sorts of businesses out there facing stiff competition
from their rivals. In fact, more and more businessmen have come to
realize that starting up a new business is not something you can take
lightly. Since almost all companies have the means to compete in the
industry in the best possible way, one needs to have that certain
edge that will take his company above all the rest.

 One such solution would be the application of e-commerce into

your wholesale commerce business. You would be able to promote
your products and services through the ideal means of internet
marketing when you seek help from professionals who can properly
develop your site and make use of online campaigns in order to
accomplish your goals and objectives. Through these means, you will
be able to make use of social media and other forms online marketing
which will result in more people knowing even more about the
products and services your company is selling.

 This is something that will greatly benefit you in so many ways. A

businesses goal is always to maximize profit and that can only be
achieved when you have the amount of loyal customers needed to
accomplish that goal. The first thing a company needs to do is
establish itself so that people will actually be willing to buy or avail of
what they are offering.

HISTORY OF JUNGLEE.COM
Junglee.com is an online shopping service by Amazon which enables
customers to find and discover products from online and offline retailers in
India. Junglee.com started off as a virtual database that was used to
extract information off the Internet and deliver it to enterprise applications.
As it progressed, Junglee.com started to use its database technology to
create a single window marketplace on the internet by making every item
from every supplier available for purchase, thereby saving consumers and
enterprises time and money. Web shoppers could locate, compare and
transact millions of products from across the Internet shopping mall through
one window.[2]

“Junglee is an online shopping service by Amazon which enables

customers to find and discover products from online and offline retailers in
India and from Amazon”.
At the backend, Junglee is a marketplace enabling sellers to upload their
catalog, which is then promoted by Amazon and the final sale happens on
seller website.

Amazon acquired Junglee in 1998, and Junglee.com was launched in India

in February 2012[3][4] as a comparison-shopping website. Today, it curates
and helps search through a wide variety of products like clothes,
electronics, toys, jewellery, video games and much more across thousands
of online and offline sellers. Customers can browse through millions of
products, choose the product and price they like, and then be directed to
the seller who is selling that particular product

"In Feb 2012, Amazon Seller Services made its foray into the Indian market
with the launch of Junglee.com, enabling retailers in India to advertise their
products for free to millions of Indian shoppers and drive targeted traffic to
their stores. With the introduction of the Amazon India: Online Shopping for
Books, Mobile Phones, Computers, Cameras, Toys & Games, Baby
Products, Personal Care Appliances, Health Care Devices, Watches,
Fashion Jewellery, Kindle E-Readers, Kindle accessories, E-Books and

programmes – ‘Sell on Amazon’ and ‘Fulfilment by Amazon' – sellers
across India now have access to unlimited and free ‘virtual shelf space’ and
a scalable, pay-as-you-go fulfilment and customer service offerings. Both
programmes have successfully been used by more than two million sellers
globally to sell to over 200 million customers worldwide and boost their
sales. We will continue to strive to become a trusted and meaningful sales
and logistics channel for retailers of all sizes across India by doing the
heavy lifting, enabling them to focus on their core business functions and

Junglee.com is an online shopping service by Amazon

At the backend, Junglee is a marketplace enabling sellers to upload their

catalog, which is then promoted by Amazon and the final sale happens on
seller website.
Junglee is a very specific idea that is trying to satisfy the goal: how do we
help customers find the best way to buy anything. It is run as a separate
business, with a separate team, with that sole objective. Amazon’s
interaction with Junglee is much the same way as a Myntra’s or a
Jabong’s or a small site’s. Junglee has recently launched analytics to help
sellers. HomeShop18, Myntra, others are benefiting from that because it
helps them understand where their selection on Junglee is doing well and
where it’s not. So Amazon benefits from Junglee the same way these sites
do. There is no special benefit to Amazon. (But) Junglee is not a non-profit
organization. The whole objective of Junglee is that we want to make
hundreds of millions of dollars in the long run. How do you get there? You
first create a great service where shoppers come to make purchase
decisions and sellers get high-intent traffic that converts very well. We have
opportunities to build a lot of value-added services that improve the
engagement between buyers and sellers that we could monetize. At this
point of time, we are focusing on building a great service. But a time would
come when we would start launching these value-added services

BUSINESS MODEL

Junglee.com is owned by Amazon and was launched in India in 2012.

Junglee is price comparison website and works on affiliate marketing
model. It gives the price comparison from both online and offline retailers.
Till now, it does not takes any commission but the affiliate marketing model
works on commission.
There are the key retailers who haven’t signed up to display their product
on Junglee.com. There’s no Flipkart, no Infibeam, no LetsBuy. These are
key e-commerce players who are looking to acquire traffic independent of
Amazon. So how does marketplace model work for Amazon? It brings
customers to Junglee.com from Amazon.com, familiarizing customers with
the Amazon backed marketplace, until Amazon is in a position to launch its
own Indian operations and competing with those in the marketplace itself.
It lures smaller e-commerce players currently struggling with high traffic
acquisition costs, and offers them something of a lifeline – it strengthens
competition against the incumbents – Infibeam and Flipkart. Listings are
free for the time being, but there will be a fee later on, which could range
from 2% to 20%, depending on the type of product. By the time the fee
kicks in, many partners would be too dependent on Amazon or
Junglee.com for traffic to take a risk of exiting.

MARKETING STRATEGIES USED
BY JUNGLEE

E-commerce giants like junglee uses demographic & psychographics

segmentation to segment the markets. Jungle.com segmentation is based
on actual purchase behaviour: not what people might have expressed
interest in, but what they actually did. ’smicro-l junglee evel segmentation
targets each customer individually, allowing the company to convert visitors
into long-term, high-value customers.

Customer segmentation often involves creating personas who will buy in a

certain way & certain products. Similarly Junglee targets the middle class &
upper class people who have got hands on experience in the basic
technology but don’t have time or prefer convenience over shopping from
the physical outlets. junglee has successfully positioned itself as a Glocal
(Go global local) e-commerce giant where one can buy anything & get it
delivered at any remote locations.
PRODUCT IN THE MARKITING OF
JUNGLEE.COM
Junglee is an international ecommerce company, using connections to the
internet from various gadgets such as phones and tablets, to allow its

including:

 Kindle
 Books
 DVDs

REVENUE GROWTH OF
JUNGLEE.COM
Indian e-commerce start-ups were getting easy money from investors in the
last year. But the money has dried up. The start-ups, to succeed, need to
differentiate themselves from their competitors in some way, Anand
Rajaraman, Founder, Junglee.com told CNBC-TV18.

Rajaraman said that start-ups are gradually getting back to basics. They
have shifted their focus on other important numbers apart from the topline.

He said the start-ups that are most likely to survive are ones that are still
largely owned by their founders.
COMPETITORS
Junglee's biggest competition in India will be Flipkart.
