Biometric attendance Policy(effective from July 2013)

1. Students should mark their attendance within first 15 minutes of any lecture slot. According to
current policy attendance is automatically awarded only if biometric attendance is marked
during the period- Slot-start+0 to slot-start+15 minutes. Lecture slot timings are shown below.
2. The time displayed on biometric readers should be considered as the correct time. This time is
centrally synchronized with a GPS time server.
3. For the morning 8.30AM slot and the noon 2.00PM slot, biometric attendance shall be accepted
from 'slotstart - 10 minutes'. This implies that for the 8.30AM slot, attendance shall be accepted
from 8.20AM to 8.45PM, and for the 2.00PM slot - from 1.50PM to 2.15PM. Course instructors
have been provided with an interface to further adjust start and end time of biometric
attendance window for individual sub-slots.

4. Barring the exceptions listed in point #3, attendance shall be ignored (not awarded) if biometric
attendance is registered even a few seconds before or after the attendance window.
5. When students have subsequent lectures scheduled at the same venue, biometric attendance
must be registered at the start of every lecture while following the policy outlined above.
6. It is the responsibility of students to give manual attendance to the instructor if they are unable
to register biometric attendance. Instructors have been provided with an online interface to
upload manual attendance on their ASC webpage.
7. Students may mark attendance multiple times within a slot (on same or different readers).
Subsequent attendance registrations within a slot are recorded but ignored by the attendance
software. Instructors can download all attendance punches for their lecture.
8. Biometric ID-cards are issued by I-Card office (security section) to all IITB students.
9. Faculty members may view biometric attendance for their courses at-
ASC> Academic> My courses> View Attendance>
Students may view their biometric attendance at-
ASC> Academic> Biometric Attendance>
10. Above policy shall remain in force, unless a new policy is declared by academic office.
