CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTINGS

Some people said that “Education is the key to success”, which is true. According
to Bany (2010) that education recognized as the central development of human
personality. Education enables individual to make the transition to new society orders by
providing self-understanding and better knowledge of the choices available. Education
at all the stage becomes a kind of future shock absorber.

Elementary education is a stage that the child starts going to a formal institution.
It provides the foundation of the physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and social
development and sound elementary gives an integral element to effective and efficient
secondary and higher education. The teachers which could facilitate students learning
and increase their involvement in different classroom activities.

According to Blazar and Kraft (2017), Student’s attitude and behaviors are
predicted by teaching practices most proximal to these measures, including teacher’s
emotional support and classroom organization. However, teachers who are effective at
improving student’s attitudes and behavior.

Statement of the Problem

This study attempts to present

1. What’s subject they get bored?


2. Reasons why they do not participate in class?
3. What

Significance of the Study


This study will help and provide information to the teachers. It also gives them
some ideas that their students do not participate in class. In addition, they will know
what actions they take to make their students participate in class.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This study focuses on the students in each strand which are the Accountancy,
Business Management (ABM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Technical
Vocational (TechVoc) and lastly the General Academic Strand (GAS) in General Santos
City National High School. The respondents of this study will be the students of each
strand in General Santos City National High School. There should only be 5 to 10
students per strand the total of 20 to 30 respondents in this study

Definition of Terms

 Education – is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of


knowledge, skills, values, beliefs and habits.
 Teacher – is a person who helps others to acquire knowledge, competence or
virtue.
 Student – is primarily enrolled in a school or other educational institution who
attend classes in a course to attain the appropriate level of mastery of a subject.
 School – is educational institution designed to provide learning environment for
the teaching of students under the direction of teacher.
 Human Personality – it is common ask if personality is the root cause of why
people behave the way they do.
 Attitude – a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something.
 Behavior – the way in which one acts or conduct oneself especially towards
others.
