5. Telling the year
a. From 2000 onward, years are pronounced like ordinary cardinal numbers.
Examples :
 2000 : two thousand
 2003 : two thousand and three
b. Earlier years are pronounced differently. The first two digits are a number and the last two
digits are a number and the last two digits are a number. However, they can be joined by
hundred if the last two figures are 00 through 09.
Examples :
 1999 : nineteen ninety-nine
 1806 : eighteen hundred and six
