 Full video documentation of the entry’s previous performance or full rehearsal in
.mp4 format in a USB flashdrive

If hand-carrying your submission, please note that Sining Banwa Harong is open from 2:00pm to
8:00pm daily, except Mondays.
If sending through courier, submission should reach us by October 1, 2019. It is advised to send
your entries not later than September 28 to allow delivery lead time. The secretariat will send
confirmation through text once your submission is received. If you do not receive our confirmation

CALL FOR ENTRIES
PISTA NIN TEATRONG BIKOLNON 2019 is an independent initiative of theater groups,

theater practitioners and supporters in the Bikol Region. It aims to gather thespians in the
region and celebrate the harvest of our creative practices and processes towards social
progress. Aside from showcases, there will be workshops and a conference which are also
important components of the festival. This will become an annual convergence and festival
of plays which will serve as a platform for artistic and cultural exchanges, leading to the
formation of a Bikol Regional Theater Network.
Sining Banwa, as the festival’s main organizer and secretariat, is calling for applications for
the 1st Pista nin Teatrong Bikolnon to be held on December 4-6, 2019 in Legazpi City.
This call is open for all community, independent and academe-based theater groups in the
Bikol Region.
This year’s theme of the festival is AGYAT/ Theater Challenging Social Challenges.
Entries should tackle current socio-political issues, or topics revolving around:
 Human rights
 Peasant and workers
 Children, youth, women, LGBTQIA+
 Environment
 Health and other social services
 Culture, arts, press
 Other pressing issues today
Applications will be screened by the members of the Selection Committee to determine

who qualifies to perform during the festival.
There will be three performance categories in the Pista:
BALAOG
Featured One-Act Plays or Musicals with running time of 30-45 minutes;
Maximum of six entries to be selected
HÁGOT
Short Plays or Musicals with running time of 10-20 minutes;
Maximum of six entries to be selected
TAGBO
Special Performances from outside Bikol with running time of 30-45 minutes;
One entry will be selected
Entry Mechanics:
Entries should:
1. have been previously staged OR works-in-progress by the time of submission;
2. use Bikol and/or Tagalog languages (Bikol means any of the languages spoken in
any Bikol locale)
3. deal with any or some of the current socio-political issues of the region and nation;
4. have production rights/permission from the playwright especially if he/she is not
part of the group.
(Please note that we will not knowingly include a show in the festival unless it has the
written permission of the playwright/originator/author. You are required to obtain this
written permission from the playwright/originator/author and, if necessary, pay any
obligatory fees for these rights, prior to performance at the Festival. It is your

Interested groups are required to submit the following:
1. Accomplished Official Entry Form (which includes information about the group and
the entry)
2. Full video documentation of the proposed entry performance in .mp4 format in a
USB flashdrive

Selection of entries will be:

1. On October 5-7, 2019, to be conducted by the Pista Selection Committee composed
of the Festival Director, Secretariat Head, and three more members who are
prominent theater practitioners in the region and in the country;
2. Based on the following criteria:
a. Relevance to current socio-political issues of the region and country
b. Originality of the concept
c. Appropriateness of the artistic treatment
Each selected group/entry performance will be entitled to:
1. One performance slot in the festival;
2. Participation Subsidy of P8,000.00 per group for the Balaog One-Act play/musical;
3. Participation Subsidy of P4,000.00 per group for Hágot Short play/musical;
4. Participation Subsidy of P10,000 for Tagbo Special Performance from outside the
region
5. Free Admission of the groups’ official delegates to other Pista shows and events
6. Free dinner for 3 days -10 pax per Balaog entry, 5 pax per Hágot entry, 5 pax for
Tagbo entry
Selected groups will take charge of the following:

1. Transportation of cast, staff and properties to and from the Pista venue in Legazpi
City
2. Accommodation of the delegates in Legazpi City during the Pista,
3. Breakfast and lunch of the delegates during the festival, plus dinner of delegates in
excess of the festival provision stated above
4. Attendance of the official delegates in ALL festival shows and events
