BEED-1A
Gian was enrolled for college when he first made a mobile app for the school in 2013 –
the PUP Mobile Portal.
He was a third year college student at that time in the Polytechnic University of the
Philippines (PUP). The students can have access to the list of services that the school
offers.
Just like any other aspiring entrepreneurs, Gian was mocked by a lot of people. But he
pursued his dreams of doing business and established his own company called the Orange
Apps, Inc.
OrangeApps is a modern school management system intended for optimizing day-to-day
operations and streamline all the processes of the educational institution.
Gian was also helped by several local angel investors and companies like Ideaspace
Foundation, and Microsoft Corporation.
Presently, Javelona is focused on Orange App’s cloud-based all-in-one platform that
offers an innovative educational technology for schools carrying the K-12 program. It is a
system that facilitates connection between students and school administrators regarding
various services and concerns like enrollment, grades, reports, and schedules.
Future plans
Orange Apps is now exploring partnerships with other schools and universities, such as
San Beda College and the University of the Philippines. Through the mobile portal,
students will be able to enroll into classes, check grades and get news updates.
Meanwhile, teachers can already input grades into the system. The app works with the
schools’ existing infrastructure, so the app actually works as a mobile extension of
whichever system schools already use for enrollment or recording grades.
The team already has an iOS application in the works, although developing on Android is
a priority, given the lower barrier to entry. The app’s main business model is advertising,
targeted toward the mostly student user-base.
SUCCESSFUL TECHNOPRENEUR IN THE
WORLD
KEVIN SYSTROM
Kevin Systrom (born December 30, 1983) is an American computer programmer and
entrepreneur. He co-founded Instagram, the world's largest photo sharing website, along
with Mike Krieger.
Systrom was included on the list of America's Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40 2016.
Under Systrom as CEO, Instagram became a fast growing app, with 800 million monthly
users as of September 2017.
He resigned as CEO of Instagram on September 24, 2018.
Instagram (also known as IG or Insta)
is a photo and video-sharing social networking service owned by Facebook, Inc. It was
created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and launched in October 2010 exclusively
on iOS. A version for Android devices was released a year and half later, in April 2012,
followed by a feature-limited website interface in November 2012, and apps
for Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 in April 2016 and October 2016 respectively.
The app allows users to upload photos and videos to the service, which can be edited with
various filters, and organized with tagsand location information. An account's posts can
be shared publicly or with pre-approved followers. Users can browse other users' content
by tags and locations, and view trending content. Users can "like" photos, and follow
other users to add their content to a feed.
The service was originally distinguished by only allowing content to be framed in a
square (1:1) aspect ratio, but these restrictions were eased in 2015. The service also
added messaging features, the ability to include multiple images or videos in a single post,
as well as "Stories"—similar to its main competitor Snapchat—which allows users to
post photos and videos to a sequential feed, with each post accessible by others for 24
hours each. As of January 2019, the Stories feature is being used by 500 million users
daily.
After its launch in 2010, Instagram rapidly gained popularity, with one million registered
users in two months, 10 million in a year, and 1 billion as of May 2019. In April 2012,
Facebook acquired the service for approximately US$1 billion in cash and stock. As of
October 2015, over 40 billion photos had been uploaded to the service. Although praised
for its influence, Instagram has been the subject of criticism, most notably for policy
and interface changes, allegations of censorship, and illegal or improper content uploaded
by users.
As of January 14, 2019, the most liked photo on Instagram is a picture of an egg, posted
by the account @world_record_egg, created with the sole purpose of surpassing the
previous record of 18 million likes on a Kylie Jenner post. The picture currently has over
53 million likes.
