INTRODUCTION

According to a science article written by Uduaka (2013), an anonymous writer,

diffraction and interference are the phenomena observed with all types of waves, both of which

are properties of light. Diffraction is the tendency of a wave emitted from a source to spread out

as it travels, this property results from the interference of an infinite amount of waves produced

by continuously-emitting source points. Interference is a phenomenon in which two waves

"superpose" to form another wave of greater, lower, or the same amplitude.

A quick way to observe interference is by watching the behavior of mechanical waves. A

stone dropped into a still pond produces wave ripples, displaying the aspects of both transverse

and longitudinal wave motion. Diffraction was able to pave ways for numerous scientific

breakthroughs, one of which is the development of the Bernal chart, enabling scientists to deduce

the crystal structure of a solid by observing photographs of x-ray diffraction patterns. In this

experiment, the interference of light was utilized to observe the results from the diffraction

grating as it was subjected to a source of light.

The study was done last March 2019 inside the Science Laboratory at the Main Building

of Pampanga High School. The experiment focused on how refraction occurs in two mediums

(air and rectangular glass block) and also the how the properties of refraction related to each

other. This study aims to discover the relationship between the amount of diffracted light

particles due to interference by using the different tools present inside the institution's laboratory.

The beneficiaries include students, learning how these mirrors affect their everyday living,

teachers with their teaching aids, primarily the projector, and the innovators and manufacturers

who focus on developing beneficial advancements on the said field of study.

Specifically, the study aims to provide answers to these following questions:

1. What is the relationship between diffraction and interference?

2. How will the light particles react when emitted on different types of media?

3. What is the relationship between the diffraction of light and the type of medium subjected to
light used?

H0: There is no significant relationship between the diffraction of light and the type of medium
subjected to light used.

H1: There is a significant relationship between the diffraction of light and the type of medium
subjected to light used.
METHODOLOGY

A. Preparation and Gathering of Materials

The materials needed for the experiment were laser pen, flashlight, diffraction grating films

(600, 300, 100, 50 Lines/MM), and viewing screen. Those materials came from the laboratory

and were accommodated by the teacher for the experiment to be done.

B. Using Laser pen as a source of light in a Single and Double slit films

Two set-ups were prepared. Set-up A, it uses a single slit while in Set-up B it uses a double

slit, which was subjected by the pen’s light particle.

C. Using Flashlight as a source of light in a Single and Double slit films

Two set-ups were prepared. Set-up A, it uses a single slit while in Set-up B it uses a double

slit, which was subjected by the flashlight.

D. Using Laser pen as source of light in a diffraction grating films

The researchers used laser pen in a different types of diffraction grating films (600, 300,

100, 50 Lines/MM) and observed the number and size of the light beam passes through it for

further interpretation of results.

E. Using Flashlight as source of light in a diffraction grating films

The researchers used flashlight in a different types of diffraction grating films (600, 300,

100, 50 Lines/MM) and observed the number and size of the light passes through it for further

interpretation of results.
