The key takeaways are about distinguishing between speed and velocity, giving examples of each in real world contexts, and calculating speed and velocity.

Speed is a scalar quantity that measures distance traveled over time while velocity is a vector quantity that includes both speed and direction of motion.

Some examples of speed given are traffic signs and examples of walking or running a distance. Examples of velocity include a car traveling northeast or a mountain climber moving in a direction.

A Semi- Detailed Lesson Plan for Junior High School

Science 7 ( 8:30-9:30)
Content standard:

The learners demonstrate an understanding of difference between

speed and velocity that they can used in their daily activities.
Performance standard:

The learners should be able to calculate the speed that they had in
their everyday activities.

I- OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

A. Distinguish between speed and velocity quantities;
B. Give the importance of speed and velocity in the real world; and,
C. Calculate speed and velocity.

II- SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Speed and Velocity

Skills: Critical thinking , listening
Values Integration: Cooperation, Helpfulness

Materials: cut-out cartolinas for heading and concepts, Manila paper

containing problems.

III- LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary activity
a. Greetings
b. Checking of attendance
c. Review of the pass lesson

B. Motivation
The teacher shows an adhesive tape to the class and rolls it back
and forth over the table. She, then, asks the following question:
a. What happened when I pushed the tape?
b. Was there a motion
c. Can you give me some examples of motions?
d. How do you, then, define motions?
d.1.Are you familiar with the traffic signs below?
C. Presentation of the lesson
1. The teacher will give an overview of the topic by asking the
following questions.
a. what do you think is speed?
b. What are some examples of speed?
c. What is velocity?
d. What are some examples of velocity?

D. Lesson Proper
1. The teacher will present the concepts about the lesson. There will
be a cross explanation between the teachers and students.

E. Activity
a. The teacher will group the class into Eight.
b. Together, the two students will be asked to read the title and
the objectives.
c. The students will be given 10 minutes to perform the activity
with the teacher’s supervision.
d. After the activity the teacher will collect the students output.

Fan Walk and Run

SECTION: _____________________ TEACHER: ___________

Objectives:
 To compare speed and velocity.
 To calculate speed and velocity.

Materials
Timer
Meter stick

Procedure
1. Make a 50-m straight distance
2. Measure the total time Interval you spent in walking the given distance
and in running as you return to the starting point.
3. Let the other members of your group do step 2 and record time spent.

Conclusion
 Is speed the same as velocity? Explain.
 How would you compare average speed and average
velocity?

F. Generalization
The teacher will ask the following questions?
a. How do you define speed?
b. What are some examples of speed?
c. How do you define velocity?
d. What are some examples of velocity?
e. How will you differentiate scalar and vector quantities?

IV- ASSESSMENT
Direction in 1 whole sheet of paper, answer the following problems:

1. What is the average speed of an airplane that flies 300 miles

in 6 hours?
2. Calculate the speed of a dog running through a field if he is
covering 23.7 meters in 54 seconds?
3. If a cross country runner covers a distance of 347 m in 134s,
what is her speed?
4. Calculate the velocity of a car that travels 556 km northeast
in 3.4 hours?
5. Calculate the velocity of a mountain climber if that climber is
moving northeast at a pace of 1.6 km in 1.4 hours. Convert it
into m/s.

V- ASSIGNMENT
In 1⁄2 sheet of paper, answer the following question.

1. What is waves?
2. What are the characteristics of waves?
3. what are the type of waves?
