40% of India suitable
for wind power
Potential for Small Wind Power
The JNNSM way
• JNNSM Solar installation target = 20000 MW

• 40% locations support wind power = 8000MW

• 50% of 8000MW by wind power for energy leveling = 4000MW

• Same investment, same infrastructure = Higher energy

output & better ROI
Most suitable applications and
business models
Rural Electrification – continue present subsidy
Small private wind farms
from 100KW to 500KW -
soft loans, accelerated
depreciation and power
purchase scheme

A 5KW Wind Turbine can stand on 2 meter Square area in

a Field of Crops
Roof Top Installations– Housing Co-op ownership
soft loans, net metering, discount electricity rate
Street light power - No investment on towers
Power Utility/ DISCOM ownership
In conclusion

• Small wind turbines are low cost, low maintenance

and dependable alternative energy generators which
can be installed in short time in very little space and
virtually without any additional infrastructure.

• The only large investment is in the acquisition of

wind speed data at 20M/ 30M height for the open
lands & roof top levels across the cities of India.
