Ⅲ After Service
1. Guarantee to keep the product in good repair
We promise to the customer. This product will be repaired free of charge within 6 months
after sale due to the problems caused by the material or manufacturing and will be reached the
functions described as our catalogue in normal operating condition. But the following problems
are except from:
a) The problems are caused by using the parts fabricated by other company.
b) Any problems are caused by self-refit.
We keep our promise, but our obligation is limited to repair or change the defective
products or the appointed service facilities. The bushing assembly, jaw assembly, die, brake
band assemly and surface coating etc, are except from the repairing. Our company shall not
responsible for any indirect damages resulted by other causes.
Please promptly contact with us if the quality problems are detected so that the problems
can be confirmed and corrected in good time by our company or by the authorized local dealer.
2. Notice
Taking into account the mutual benefits between the customer and our company, we
make some stipulations for using the hydraulic oil, lubrication oil and safe prevention in
order to prolong the service life of the equipment.
The other guarantee clauses included in the product authorized letter and operating
instruction shall be based upon this explanation.
Ⅳ Hydraulic Circuit
Hydraulic System:
1.system pressure≥16Mpa
2.system oil=1401/min
3
As shown in the aboved, the hydraulic system in the broken line, and it may be hydraulic
power station or trailer mounted power unit 7 is quick connector that connect with the hose. The
oil from the hydraulic system come into the control valve through the quick connector 8. The
operator can control the speed and direction of the motor rotation by mving the control valve
spool position.
Ⅴ the Rotor Assembly
The prime feature of the rotor assembly is that when the roller is rotating, displacement
occurs between the outer ring assembly (including the bushing and the jaw assembly) and the
inner ring assembly, and gripping force
develops on tubing through the roller
rolling along the cam surface of the jaw.
Meanwhile, the gripping force also
works to prevent further relative
movement of the outer ring assembly to
the roller, and causes it to rotate together.
The ratio of the die force in relation to
the torque depends on the angle on the
cam surface of the jaw.
As shown in Figure 1, stationary
bushing A and the active jaw B is
mounted as one unit with the inner ring,
stationary bushing A is fixed on the
Figure 1
inner ring while the jaw B is hinged to
The jaw B and bushing A installed for
right-hand rotation
point E on the inner ring and can rotate
around it.
When the outer ring assembly is rolling, the inner ring assembly rotates along, and relative
displacement occurs as described above, and the roller D will roll along the cam surface of the
jaw and cause it to move in contact with the tubing. In order to develop a positive force of the
jaw against the tubing, it is necessary to restrain the movement of the inner ring assembly while
the outer ring forces the jaw inward. This is accomplished by the using a brake band, anchored
to the top of the frame cover, and a brake drum on top of the inner ring. The spring force in the
brake band automatically maintains the proper drag on the inner ring assembly. As soon as the
initial force is developed on the jaw, as controlled by the brake band, the inner ring and outer
ring assemblies will rotate as a unit. The brake band will continue to retard the inner ring
4
assembly enough to maintain the minimum die force necessary to grip the tubing effectively
under all conditions and to realize tubing makeup and breakout.
When the tong is removed from the tubing, the outer ring is reversed and the brake band holds
the inner ring assembly while the roller D releases its force on the jaw as it moves toward point
E. Roller C then retracts the front end of the jaw and holds it in the full open position. The inner
ring and outer ring assemblies then rotate as a unit until their openings line up with the opening
in the frame to permit the tong to come off the tubing.
Note that rollers H and C, G and D function the same way.
Ⅵ Tong Installation
1. Hanging. To connect one end of the hanger with the power tong, and the other end shall
connect with the wire rope and hang it on the derrick of the workover rig. Usually a 9/16〞
wire rope is used. The hanging point is about 15m(50 feet)above the rig.In the free
condition, the distance from the center of the power tongs head to the center of the well is
about0.5m(20).
Note: There is a spring in the suspension assembly which allow the tong to move
vertically while the joint is being made up or broken out.
2. Leveling. Adjust the balance of the tong by turning the balancing screw at the top of the
hanger and the hanger set screws at the bottom of each hanger arm. And the tong is in a ideal
situation by balancing the tong height.
3. Back guy (stiff arm). Tie one end of the back guy on derrick and the other end shall be
backup line tied to the back swivel. The
back guy shall be capable of
bearing a load of 2600kg
(5730lbs). The back guy (stiff
arm) shall be opposite to the
operator and anchored high
enough to be level with the
tong (at a 90°angle to the tail
end of the tong), see figure
5
to the back guy (or stiff arm).
Caution (1) backup line must be always used whether it contact with backup tong
(2) if there is only master tong both sides of the tong must be always used the backup
line.
4. Install the bushing assembly and jaw assembly. Choose the correct bushing assembly and
jaw assembly according to the tubing diameters, the jaw support opening and the roller
gripping mechanism.
5. Hose connection. Connect the power source and power tong with the pressure hose and the
nominal diameter of the coming oil hose shall be more than 25mm(1″).
Note: (1) Check all hoses to make certain that the self-sealing couplings are completely
engaged and that there is no blockage or shutoff in the hydraulic system.
(2) Connect the returning hose with tong and then connect the inlet hose with tong,
avoiding the pressure in motor and seals and hose.
(3) Keep the hose joint always clean.
(4)Check the oil tank level to make
certain there is plenty of oil in the system.
(5) Check oil circulation before start the
pump.
(6) With the hoses properly hooked up to
the tong, engage the pump and allow the oil to
circulate for 5-10 minutes before operating the
tong. In cold weather, allow time for warm-up
as you would for an internal combustion
engine. Figure 3

(2)Low and high gears. Low gear is
used for breaking tight joints. As soon as a
tight joint begins to free up- indicated by the
pull on the backup line –slow the tong speed
and shift into high gear; then accelerate to the
desired speed. Use high gear for spinning and
makeup, unless desired torque requires low
gear for extra high torque makeup.
