DANCESPORTS Guidelines

(LATIN DISCIPLINE)

1. There shall be 1 pair for every unit to compete.


2. The organizing committee will be responsible to select the music to be used during only for derby.
 The derby performance will not affect the actual scores of the couple.
 The couple will prepare their music for the individual performance. (1 minute and thirty
seconds for each dance.)

3. For competition dress:

Ladies:

1. The area between the line and the panty line, plus the area must be covered completely.
NO see-through materials shall be allowed in these areas. NO high cut panties, tangas, and
cuts beyond the hipline. (Hipline is defined as the top hip bone).
2. When standing, the skirt must cover the panties completely. Any color except flesh (skin
tone).
3. Panties must be black or the same color as the dress.
4. Excessive make up and too elaborate hairstyle are not desirable.
5. The chairperson shall ask the competitor to remove the jewelries if they may cause danger
to them or to another competitor.
6. Change of dress during the round is not allowed except in the case of an accident that
makes the dress unusable.
Men:

1. Black or midnight blue trousers, and any color on the top (the upper can be opened down).
2. Short hairstyle is preferred. If the hair is long, it must be ponytailed.
3. The chairperson shall ask the competitor to remove the jewelries if they may cause danger
to them or to another competitor.

4. The dancers will perform the following sequence of dances: CHA-CHA-CHA, RUMBA, JIVE.

(STANDARD DISCIPLINE)

1. There shall be 1 pair for every unit to compete.

 No two-piece dresses allowed. No cuts below waistline. No low necklines. The breast
area should be covered completely. No see-through materials on these areas. Any color
except flesh.
 Excessive make-up and too elaborate hairstyle are not desirable.
 The chairperson shall ask the competitor to remove the jewelries if they may cause
danger to the dancer or other competitors.
Men:

 Tail suit black or any black suit with all accessories (dress shirt, bow tie, studs, etc.)

4. The dancers will perform the following sequence of dances: SLOW WALTZ, TANGO, QUICKSTEP.

Criteria:

Timing and basic rhythm


Body lines
Movement
Footwork

Basic Mechanics:
 The judging of the couple begins when they adopt their dancing positions and ends only
when the music stops.
 If a couple stops dancing while the music is being played, the couple must be placed last
in the dance.
 Couple must be judged solely on the performance on the specific dance and on the
specified time. Any consideration of titles, previous performance in other dance is not
permitted.
 A judge is under no obligation to justify his/her remarks to competing couples. During the
competition, or the interval between rounds of the competition, the judge is prohibited
from any discussion between the competitors and or their performance/s with any
person.
 Competitors must be in the venue at least (1) one hour before the start of competition for
final instruction and distribution of numbers.
 Competitors must wear their number during the competition.
 All competitors must be dressed appropriately, with the number pinned at the back of the
male contestant.
