Philippine Holidays
Expect two more holidays coming up in 2019: Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha. These Islamic holidays
have no dates yet, but they will be announced once they’re set.
Another exciting aspect of planning your holidays for next year: knowing when the long
weekends will be.
Here are the six long weekends in the Philippines to look forward to this year:
Do the six long weekends seem too short? You can extend your long weekends to 12 or 13 in
2019. This is where being strategic in filing your vacation leaves comes into play.
Some 2019 Philippine holidays fall on a Tuesday or Wednesday, so schedule your leaves on
those sandwiched holidays. For example, since the Chinese New Year falls on a Tuesday, it’s
best to file your VL the day before it (Monday).
If your employer offers more than 10 paid VLs per year, take advantage of them! You can afford
to take a two-day leave before Labor Day, Independence Day, and Ninoy Aquino Day for a five-
day weekend.
And if you still have unused VL credits by December, you can use them for the 23rd, 26th, and
27th to enjoy a 12-day holiday break until January 1!

You have plenty of choices in celebrating this major Chinese holiday. Have a food trip or join the
festivities in Binondo. Stroll in the mall to watch a dragon dance. Or simply feast on traditional
Chinese dishes (tikoy, pancit, lumpia, dumplings, and round fruits) with your family at home.
Three-Day Weekends
The EDSA Anniversary, National Heroes Day, and All Saints’ weekends consist of only three
days. Still, you can make the most of that short break! Do the things you keep postponing for a
long time, or just enjoy the company of your family and pets at home.
