FEATURES
• 3-Inch Discharge Valve • FM Approved
• Optional Liquid Level Indicator • UL Listed
• Optional Low-Pressure Switch (P/N 06-118263-001) • TC Approved
• RoHS Compliant
DESCRIPTION
Kidde ECS System 600 lb. Agent Cylinders store sup-
pression agent super-pressurized with dry nitrogen to
360 psig at 70°F (2.48 Mpa at 21°C). The cylinders are
painted red and are equipped with a 3-inch pressure dif-
ferential valve, pressure gauge, optional liquid level indi-
cator and optional low-pressure switch assembly. The
safety burst disc is also located on the cylinder shoulder.
OPERATION
The agent storage container discharges when the actua-
tion assembly operates, causing the pressure differential
valve to open. All of the Kidde actuators may be used to
actuate the 600 lb. cylinder. The only exception is the
48650001, which is not compatible with this cylinder
valve.
INSTALLATION
The container is installed in a vertical position with the
valve assembly pointing up. Interconnection to discharge
piping is 3-inch NPT. Interconnection can be via a 3-inch
flex hose (P/N 06-118225-001) or via a suitably pressure
rated groove style fitting.
The container is secured in place by a mounting bracket
(P/N 294651), which must be fixed to a solid wall or strut
assembly. After the container is securely mounted it is
connected to discharge piping per the directions in the
design manual. QUARTERLY INSPECTION
An optional cylinder supervisory pressure switch (P/N 06- 1. Check the pressure gauges of each agent storage

DESCRIPTION
Kidde Fire Systems FM-200® ADS Series Engineered
Fire Suppression Systems are Listed by the Underwriters
Laboratory, Inc. (UL) and tested by Factory Mutual (FM).
These systems are designed for total flooding in accor-
dance with NFPA 2001, Standard on Clean Agent Extin-
guishing Systems. These systems have been tested to
UL 2166, Standard for Safety; Standard for Halocarbon
Clean Agent Extinguishing System Units, and other
parameters established jointly by UL and FM.
The ADS uses a unique method for propelling the FM-
200 agent from the storage cylinder, through the piping
system and out of the discharge nozzles. Nitrogen gas
pressure from two separate storage cylinders is intro-
duced into the vapor space of the FM-200 cylinder at a
controlled rate. This nitrogen pressure acts to propel the
liquid FM-200 agent through the pipe at a higher flow
rate. It can also propel the FM-200 agent farther through
the pipe network allowing for the placement of storage
cylinders remotely from the protected hazard.
The FM-200 ADS Series is extremely well-suited to appli-
cations involving remote agent storage and situations
which limit the maximum pipe size to be used. The ADS
is capable of using smaller pipe sizes to discharge large
quantities of FM-200.
This system can be successfully applied to many existing
Halon 1301 system pipe networks, providing easy retrofit
of these systems to a new agent with long-term availabil-
ity.

Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems
These systems contain electrically nonconducting, volatile, or gaseous fire extinguishing agents that don't leave a residue upon
evaporation (per NFPA 2001 paragraph 1-3.1). They are effective for total flooding protection against hazards involving liquid
flammable materials, electrical equipment, and ordinary solid combustibles in occupancy arrangements which produce only surface
burning. In general, these agents are not effective or appropriate for hazards which produce deep-seated burning or for those which
involve chemicals containing their own oxygen (such as cellulose nitrate), metal hydrides, or reactive metals (such as sodium,
magnesium or uranium).
Clean Agent systems are similar in many respects to Halon 1301 and carbon dioxide systems. Discharge of the agent by total flooding
or local application may create atmospheric hazards to personnel. Toxic thermal decomposition products can be minimized by fast fire
detection coupled with rapid agent discharge. Personnel should not remain in the area following system discharge. Table A-1-5.1.1 of
NFPA 2001 provides information on toxicological and physiological effects covered in this equipment classification. The No Observed
Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) is the highest concentration at which no adverse physiological or toxicological effect has been
observed. The Lowest Observed Adverse Effect Level (LOAEL) is the lowest concentration at which an adverse physiological or
toxicological effect has been observed.
Systems can only be FM Approved under this classification if they use agents having a component Approval. The system Approvals
specifically reference the relevant agent Approval. Individual agent listings appear under the category Clean Extinguishing Agents.
Compatible FM Approvals controls must be used. (See AUTOMATIC RELEASES FOR EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS AND OTHER
FIRE PROTECTION EQUIPMENT under ELECTRICAL SIGNALING.)
Application of this equipment should be subject to the limitations specified and subject to FM Global's acceptance of plans prior to
installation. Required design concentrations vary from agent to agent and depending upon maximum design parameters, the
concentration may vary among system manufacturers. The design concentrations listed by the system manufacturers are generally
accepted in electrical/electronic hazards, i.e. computer, telecommunication areas, provided that Class A ordinary combustibles are
kept to a minimum, thereby minimizing the potential for a deep seated Class A fire.
System charging and recharging shall be done only by the manufacturer or a FM Approved representative.
The Clean Agent systems FM Approved under this classification have been addressed by NFPA 2001, Standard on Clean Agent
Extinguishing Systems, 1994 Edition and must be listed in the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Significant New
Alternatives Policy (SNAP) as an acceptable substitute to Halon 1301.
Jurisdictions outside the United States may not recognize NFPA and EPA sanction of certain clean agents. Local and national
governmental regulations should be consulted prior to agent selection.
*Alternative to Halon 1211 and Halon 1301.
