The Impacts of the local oriented travel television show “Biyahe ni Drew” in promoting
“Biyahe ni Drew” is a Local Travel Television Show broadcasted by GMA Network. It showcases
the beauty of the places around the world, both internationally and locally. The host, Drew Arellano travels
to different destinations to promote tourism that even with limited budget everyone can travel both in
Philippines and abroad. The show received was recognized as the “Best Travel Oriented TV Show” at the
1st Philippine Tourism Industry Awards and the host was also recognized as the Best Travel Oriented TV
Show Host. They received a lot of awards and recognitions since the beginning of their show for its
Tourism in the Philippines plays an important role in the socio-economic growth to generate
investment, foreign exchange, and employment of the country. The Department of Tourism is the primary
government agency who handles the tourism in the Philippines (tourism.gov.ph, 2018). One of its attached
agencies is the Tourism Promotions Board which is responsible for marketing and promoting the
Philippines domestically and internationally as a major global destination. The agency has a lot of projects,
programs, and activities to promote the Philippines like the trips that they organized for different companies
There are many ways to promote the tourism in the Philippines and one of those is by media.
Watching television has a great impact in promoting different products because many businessmen market
their product by making commercials and use popular artists to promote their product. The television show,
“Biyahe ni Drew,” without knowing, this show helps in promoting the Philippine Tourism because of the
content of their program. The researchers want to conduct a research about the impacts of the television
show, “Biyahe ni Drew,” in promoting the Philippine tourism to the Tourism Management students.
This research aims to know The Impacts of the television show “Biyahe ni Drew” in promoting the Philippine
tourism to the Tourism Management Students of Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Sta. Mesa

Department of Tourism (DOT) - By being knowledgeable of the study, DOT will be aware of the
places that need improvements and look for the possible solutions for the progress of the places.
Travelers- This study will encourage the travelers to visit and explore the destinations here in the
Viewers- serve as an engine to encourage the viewers to visit the place and inform them about the
Tourism Students- this study will be a great help to the tourism management students to
Biyahe ni Drew Productions – this study will benefit the production in a way that they can take
the insights of the viewers to have a better outcome of promoting other travel destinations.
Future Researchers- the conclusions of this study could serve as a reference to future
In this study, the researchers will only focus on the impacts of the television show ‘Biyahe ni Drew’
in promoting the Philippine tourism. To gather data; they will have 8 respondents to answer their questions
to come up with accurate conclusions. The respondents will only be the Tourism Management students of
The researchers will not cover other television shows and the tourism of another country since its
main objective is the Philippine tourism. There will be no more than 8 respondents and less than that
because 8 respondents are enough to conduct an interview to gather data. There will be also no
respondents outside the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa, Manila and other college
department students because its main respondents are the Tourism Management students.
IV. Methodology
The research method to be used is phenomenology method due to the nature of the study which
was to identify the impacts of the television show ‘Biyahe ni Drew’ to the viewers in promoting Philippine
tourism. They will utilize this study to interview 8 respondents to determine the impacts. The respondents
will be determined through convenience sampling due to accessibility of the pace where the study is being
conducted.
Once the data is gathered the researchers will identify the effectiveness of viewing ‘Biyahe ni
Drew.’ They will find patterns if their respondents have the same answers and perceptions.
