Lab Problem - RDS DB Creation: Issue

The creation of an RDS MySQL database instance for a WordPress lab was failing, preventing a connection from WordPress. The issue was that the new default AWS RDS user interface was not properly creating the database. The resolution was to use the original RDS user interface, which could be accessed by selecting "Switch to your original interface" from the create database page. Using the original interface allowed the database to be correctly created and the WordPress connection to be established.

Lab Problem - RDS DB Creation

Hello Cloud Gurus,


There is currently a problem with the creation of the RDS Instance in this lab causing an
error when attempting to establish a connection from WordPress.

Issue:

The creation of the MySQL RDS database instance is failing to create the Database when
using the new (default) AWS RDS User Interface. The WordPress application fails to
connect to the MySQL Database.

Resolution:

Use the OLD (Original) version of the RDS User Interface (UI) to create the RDS DB.

To access the Original RDS UI:


- Select the Create Database button on the RDS console
- From the top-left of the Create Database page select “Switch to your original
interface”
- This will open the Original RDS UI
- Follow the remainder of the lab step-by-step
