Protecting Computer Files Document Control
Version : 1.0
with Encryption Software (AxCrypt)
Brief Description:
Encryption is a process of converting information or data into a code to prevent
unauthorized access.
AxCrypt:
AxCrypt Software is a free program that allows protecting files by encrypting (128-bit
AES). Encryption is more secure than just password protection. AxCrypt supports file
encryption on both operating systems i.e. Windows and Mac
How to Use AxCrypt (Windows users)
AxCrypt does not have a separate window to operate for Windows OS. All the interaction
starts with the right-click menus on selected files:
1. Right click on the file/folder you want to encrypt and select AxCrypt from the
context menu. Then select Encrypt to encrypt the file or all the files in the selected
folder.

2. Create a passphrase, your passphrase should be long in order to get the full
security. The stronger the passphrase, the stronger the encryption.
3. After a file is encrypted, its icon changes to the AxCrypt shield. It also changes the
file extension to .axx and appends the file’s original extension to the new filename.
4. When you open the encrypted file, it will ask for your passphrase. Type it in and click
OK, then you can edit and save the file just like normal. When you save it, it will save
it back into the encrypted file automatically.
