GSO STANDARD GSO 2451/2014
3.1 Valve
Piping component which influences the fluid flow by opening, closing or partially
obstructing the passage of the fluid flow or by diverting or mixing the fluid flow.
3.2 Control Valve
A power operated device which changes the fluid flow rate in process control system. It
consists of a valve connected to an actuator with or without positioner that is capable of
changing the position of an obturator in the valve in response to a signal from the
controlling system.
3.3 Actuator
Any power operated device used to operate a valve. The device is designed to operate
using motive energy which may be electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc., or a
combination of these. Movement is limited by travel, torque or thrust.
3.4 Parts-Turn Actuator
Actuator which transmits torque to the valve for a rotation of one revolution or less. It
does not have to be capable of withstanding axial thrust.
3.5 Gearbox
Any mechanism designed to reduce the torque required to operate a valve.
3.6 Driving Shaft
Shaft connected to the obturator to operate the valve in the case of a multi-shaft valve.
3.7 KTW / W270

4. REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Design
The Needle valves shall be utilized and designed to regulate water flow
accurately in water piping system. The flow regulation happen through the
axial movement of a piston, operated by a rod and crank mechanism.
The sizing of the valve shall be designed & guaranteed for cavitation free
performance in the entire operating range of flow and pressure with linear flow
characteristic.
The valve shall be equipped with modulating actuator with local & remote
control facility.
Installed in horizontal or vertical pipes according to the flow arrow cast on
pipe.

the stem gearbox is supplemented with a drive flange.
4.2 Class
The valves and associated equipment shall be designed and suitable for operation in
the climatic conditions of the Member States.
The valves shall be suitable for handling desalinated water, well water and/or a
mixture of both unless specifically mentioned otherwise.
The Contractor is referred to the General Technical Requirements of the contract
which details the climatic conditions that may be encountered at site.
4.3 Codes & Standard
Needle Valves shall conform to BSEN 1074-1 or its approved equivalent standard.
4.4 Performance
The valves shall have flanged ends of appropriate design and drilling system to be
capable of functioning with the specified working pressure.
4.5 Materials
The valves components shall be manufactured from the following materials (unless
otherwise specified).
