Claiming all the tax credits you are due ensures you pay the correct tax and maximises your take-home pay.
If, based on your estimate of your total income for 2018, you have incorrectly been given the USC exemption or the
reduced rate of USC, the quickest and easiest way to correct this is by going to 'Manage your tax 2018' in PAYE
Services in myAccount. You can also contact your Revenue office at the number above, to have it updated.
- Where your total income (excluding Department of Social Protection payments) for 2018 is €13,000 or less
you will be exempt from paying USC.
- Where your total income (excluding Department of Social Protection payments) for 2018 is €60,000 or less,
and you either:
- hold a full medical card, or
- are over 70 years of age,
you will be liable to pay USC at a maximum rate of 2% (reduced rate) in 2018.
- Otherwise, USC at the standard rates in 2018 (up to a maximum of 8%) will apply.
