1 First, keep calm!

● Perhaps you feel a little nervous?
Try taking ten slow breaths before

you go into the exam room.

Then say to yourself: I am calm

and in control. I can do this.

2 Keep an eye on the clock

● You need to use your time well in the exam.
● Some questions may be longer than others,

with more marks.

● Work out roughly how long you can spend

on each question.
● Allow a little time for a final check too.

● Then keep an eye on the clock.

3 Read the question carefully!

● You will get NO marks for a great answer
to the wrong question!
● So take time to read the question carefully.
This will save you time in the end.
● Note the instruction. Does it say Describe?
Or List? Or Explain?

4 Pay attention to the marks

● The mark for a question part tells you
what the examiner expects.
● You will gain no extra marks for extra

information – and you will lose time.

5 Don’t get stuck!

if you can’t answer it.
● Just move on quickly to pick up marks

on other questions.
● You can come back to it later, if you

have time.

6 About calculations
● For calculations, it is a good idea to show
your working.
● Don’t forget to give the correct units.

Wrong units lose marks.

● For example, if you have to work out a speed, you

must give the unit of distance per unit of time.

questions where you got stuck.
