1. New World Bank Project to Support Climate Resilient Agriculture for Farmers in Odisha
1.a The Government of India, Government of Odisha and the World Bank signed a US$165 million
loan agreement.
1.b It has been signed to support smallholder farmers strengthen the resilience of their production
systems as well as diversify and improve the marketing of their produce, for increased income.
1.c The Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture will be implemented in
rural areas vulnerable to droughts and largely dependent on rainfed agriculture.
1.d It will benefit about 125,000 smallholder farmer households from 15 districts of Odisha managing
128,000 of agricultural land.

2. Government hikes minimum support price of Rabi crops for 2020-21
2.a The Union Cabinet has decided to hike Minimum Support Price, MSP, for Rabi crops for marketing
season 2020-21.
2.b MSP of wheat has been increased by 85 rupees per quintal to 1,925 rupees per quintal.
2.c While MSP of Gram has been increased by 255 rupees, barley 85 rupees, mustard oil 225 rupees
and sunflower 270 rupees per quintal.
2.d The move will help increase farmers' income.

3. Jennifer Aniston to receive People’s Icon Award 2019
3.a Jennifer Aniston to receive People’s Icon Award 2019 at the 2019 People’s Choice Awards.
3.b The actress would be the 2nd-ever recipient of the title. 50-year-old Aniston has played the most
iconic, unforgettable characters and has conquered comedy and drama on both the small and big
screen.
3.c She is a 7-time People’s Choice Award winner.
4. Ilham Tohti wins Sakharov Prize
4.a The European Parliament has awarded the Sakharov Prize to Uighur intellectual Ilham Tohti. He
has been awarded the Sakharov Prize for his attempts to “foster dialogue” between Chinese people
and the Uighur.
4.b Ilham Tohti, who is from the Uighur minority, has been a fierce critic of China’s treatment of the
Uighur people. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment in China for “separatism”.
4.c The outspoken former Professor of economics at a Beijing university was sentenced in 2014.

5. Panchayati Raj Minister confers National Panchayat Awards 2019

5.a Minister of Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar conferred the national Panchayat Awards,
2019 at a function in New Delhi.
5.b 246 Awards were given to awardee Panchayats and States in various categories for their best
performance at different levels, including the delivery of services.
5.c 195 awards were conferred under Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar
category, 20 Gram Panchayats in Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar category
and 3 Gram Panchayats in Gram Panchayat Development Plan Award category.
5.d 22 Gram Panchayats were awarded in Child-Friendly Gram Panchayats Award and six states were
awarded under e-Panchayat Puraskar category.
5.e The Minister also launched an App called ‘Gram Manchitra’ which is a Geo-Spatial based decision
support system for panchayats.

6.c The time and date are derived from the Avogadro number, which is approximately 6.02×1023,
defining the number of particles (atoms or molecules) in one mole (mol) of substance, one of the seven
base SI units.
7. World Development Information Day: 24 October
7.a The United Nations observes World Development Information Day on 24 October every year.
7.b The General Assembly in 1972 established World Development Information Day to draw the
attention of the world to development problems and the need to strengthen international cooperation
to solve them.
7.c The General Assembly decided that the date for the Day should coincide with United Nations Day
i.e. 24 October.

anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter.

9. World Polio Day: 24 October
9.a World Polio Day is celebrated on 24 October annually to raise awareness about the polio disease
and efforts for eradication.

initiated by Rotary International over a decade ago to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, who
developed a vaccine against poliomyelitis.

for an adequate police force.

11. Ayurveda Day 2019: 25 October
11.a The fourth Ayurveda Day is being organised on October 25 at National Institute of Ayurveda
(NIA) in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
11.b Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India decided to celebrate Ayurveda Day every year on the
day of Dhanvantari Jayanti (Dhanteras) since 2016.
11.c On this occasion, Ministry also facilitates 3-4 Ayurveda experts with 'National Dhanwantari
Ayurveda Award' comprising of citation, trophy (Dhanwantari Statue) and a cash reward of rupees five
lakh.
12. National Unity Day to be celebrated on Oct 31
12.a National Unity Day will be celebrated on 31st of this month to mark the birth anniversary of
Ironman Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
12.b Preparations are in full swing to celebrate the day in a grand manner.
12.c Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kevadia in Gujarat to pay homage to the great leader at
the Statue of Unity.

13. World Day for Audiovisual Heritage: 27 October
13.a The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage takes place every 27 October.
13.b This commemorative day was chosen by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization) in 2005 to raise awareness of the significance and preservation risks of
recorded sound and audiovisual documents.
13.c The theme for World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 2019 is “Engage the Past Through Sound and
Images”.
14. Indian Army celebrates infantry day on 27 October
14.a Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to soldiers on Infantry Day.
14.b Infantry Day is observed on October 27.
14.c This day marks the landing of first Indian troops in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 to push back
Pakistan supported intruders.

15. IAF chief leaves for Oman to witness joint exercise 'Eastern Bridge'

15.a Chief of Indian Air Force (IAF) Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria left for Oman on an official visit
to witness the ongoing Indo-Oman Joint Exercise ‘Eastern Bridge’
15.b ‘Eastern Bridge is a joint military exercise between the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) and the
Indian Air Force at RAFO base in Masirah, Oman.
15.c The IAF MiG-29s (upgraded) is participating with Hawks, F-16 and Eurofighter Typhoons of
Omani Air Force in the exercise.
15.d For the first time, MiG-29 fighter aircraft are participating in an international exercise outside
India.
16. Indo-French Joint Exercise ‘Shakti-2019’
16.a Series of 'Exercise SHAKTI' between India and France commenced in the year 2011.
16.b As part of Exercise SHAKTI - 2019, French Army troops arrived in India on 26 October 2019 for
training with Indian Troops.
16.c The bilateral training exercise will be conducted at the Foreign Training Node at Mahajan Field
Firing Ranges, Rajasthan.
16.d A contingent of the Sikh Regiment of Sapta Shakti Command will represent Indian Army in this
exercise.
16.e The bilateral exercise will be conducted from 31 October 2019 to 13 November 2019.

17. ITBP to have two new commands
17.a The Union Cabinet approved the proposal of cadre review of Group "A" General Duty (Executive)
cadre and non-GD cadre of Indo- Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
17.b It approved the creation of two new commands - Western Command at Chandigarh and Eastern
Command at Guwahati - to be headed by Additional Director General and assisted by Inspector
General.
17.c The newly created posts will be filled up according to recruitment rules.
17.d Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force was conceptualised in the wake of the Chinese aggression on
the country's northern borders in 1962.

18. Rajnath Singh inaugurates 'Col Chewang Rinchen Setu' in eastern Ladakh
18.a Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on inaugurated 'Col Chewang Rinchen Setu', a strategically
important bridge, over Shyok river in Ladakh region.
18.b The 430-meter-long bridge has been built by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and connects
Durbuk and Daulat Beg Oldie in Eastern Ladakh.
18.c It will not only provide all-weather connectivity in the region but also be a strategic asset in the
border areas.
18.d The construction has been completed in record 15 months.
18.e Col Chewang Rinchen, born on November 11, 1931, at Sumur, Nubra Valley in Ladakh region, is
known as the "Lion of Ladakh" for his extraordinary acts of courage in defending Leh and Partapur
sector.
19. Defence Ministry clears indigenous projects worth Rs 3300 crore
19.a The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired defence minister Rajnath Singh gave the nod for
procurement of indigenous defence equipment worth Rs 3300 crore to give a push to the Make in
India’ initiative.
19.b The three projects, which got the go-ahead, include two third-generation anti-tank guided

missiles and the auxiliary power units for the T-72 and T-90 tanks.
19.c The third-generation anti-tank guided missiles would provide 'fire and forget' and 'top attack'
capabilities to the troops in an armoured battle.
19.d The third indigenous project pertains to discrete electronic warfare (EW) systems for the
mountain and high altitude terrain, which would be designed and developed by DRDO and
manufactured by design cum production partner from the Indian industry.
20. IAF fires 2 BrahMos missiles at Trak Island in Andaman Nicobar
20.a Two BrahMos surface to surface missiles were fired by Indian Air Force at Trak Island in the
Andaman Nicobar group of islands.
20.b The twin firings have been carried out as a part of the routine operational training.
20.c The missile engaged the designated mock targets close to 300 Kilometres away.
20.d A direct hit on the target was achieved in both cases.
20.e The firing of the missiles has enhanced Air force capability to engage ground targets with
pinpoint accuracy from a mobile platform.
21. Over 40,000 troops to participate in Indian Army's exercise 'Sindhu Sudarshan'
21.a More than 40,000 troops will take part in the Indian Army's exercise codenamed 'Sindhu
Sudarshan' in the deserts of Rajasthan, from November 29 to December 4.
21.b The Indian Army will be carrying out this exercise using its integrated battle groups which are
the new formations being raised by the force for warfighting in future.
21.c Over 40,000 troops will participate in an all-arms battle array of Divisions and Brigades carrying
out offensive operations in deserts.
22. DRDO starts work on ‘next-gen’ hypersonic weapon
22.a The Defence Research and Development (DRDO) has started work to produce hypersonic
weapon missiles that travel at 5 times speed of sound, or a little over a mile every second.
22.b A wind tunnel to test and fine-tune the technology will be operational soon.
22.c Hypersonic weapons are specifically designed for increased survivability against modern ballistic
missile defence systems.
22.d These missiles are capable of delivering conventional or nuclear payloads at speeds not
imagined hiterto over long ranges.
23. Indian Army to conduct 2019 “Sindhu Sudarshan” exercise 2019 in Rajasthan deserts
23.a The Indian Army (IA) is to conduct exercise codenamed “Sindhu Sudarshan” for the year 2019 in
the deserts of Rajasthan from November 29 to December 4, 2019.
23.b The aim of this exercise is to evaluate the capability of the defence services in an integrated air-
land battle.
23.c In the Sindhu Sudarshan exercise, operational efficiency of the Strike Corps fighting in the desert
terrain will be assessed and the Indian Air Force(IAF) will provide support in terms of destruction of
targets and airlifting troops.
23.d The exercise showcasing a high degree of synergy between the Army and Air Force will be
reviewed by Lieutenant General SK Saini.

24. 2-day India-Bangladesh Stakeholders' Meet underway in Guwahati
24.a The two-day India-Bangladesh Stakeholders' Meet started in Guwahati with a focus on trade

24.b The focus is on improving its connectivity with the neighbouring country to get the best of the
rest under Act East Policy for the host Assam.
24.c A 70-member delegation from Bangladesh is participating in the meet, while a similar top-level
team will represent the host nation.
24.d The idea of the meet is to put Assam at the focus point of India's trade expansion with the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations as well as Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.
25. India jumps 14 places on World Bank's Ease of Doing business ranking
25.a India has jumped 14 places to take the 63rd position on the World Bank's ease of doing business
ranking.
25.b The country was 77th among 190 countries in the previous ranking.
25.c In its Doing Business 2020 report, the World Bank commended the reform efforts undertaken by
the country.
25.d India has improved its rank in 7 out of 10 indicators and has moved closer to international best
practices.
25.e New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong topped the list this year.

26. SBI Card launches contactless mobile phone payments facility
26.a SBI Card announced the launch of ‘SBI Card Pay’, a feature which allows contactless payment
using mobile phones at PoS terminals.
26.b Using SBI Card Pay, customers can make contactless payments at near field communication
(NFC) enabled point of sale terminals with just one tap of their mobiles, without using the physical
credit card or entering any PIN.
26.c SBI Card Pay is a payment feature based on Host Card Emulation (HCE) technology for faster,
convenient and more secure card payments using mobile phones.
27. GeM Partners with Federal Bank for payment-related services
27.a The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the
Federal Bank to offer a number of services.
27.b These serviced including the transfer of funds through GeM Pool Accounts (GPA), advising of
Performance Bank Guarantees (e-PBG) and Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) to the registered users on
the portal.
27.c The MoU will facilitate a cashless, paperless and transparent payment system on the portal and
would create an efficient procurement system for government entities.
28. Vreedhi Financial Services receives an NBFC licence from RBI
28.a Vreedhi Financial Services (VFS) has secured a non-banking finance company licence from the
Reserve Bank of India.
28.b It’s objective is to provide credit and other services to micro-enterprises operating in tier two-
three cities and small towns.
28.c The company will create a digital lending model by the next financial year.
28.d It will address the gap between the addressable and viable credit in the micro-enterprises space
which is $123 billion as per the study conducted by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
29. Vijaya Bank Museum inaugurated in Bengaluru
29.a The Vijaya Bank Heritage Museum has been inaugurated at the headquarters of the erstwhile
Vijaya Bank i.e. Bengaluru.
29.b The museum has a rare collection of photos through which the growth of the bank is showcased.

history. Vijaya Bank was one of the premier nationalised banks in the country.

Baroda on April 1, 2019.
30. IOB launches health care plus insurance policy
30.a Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) in association with Universal Sompo General Insurance Co Ltd. has
launched upgraded health care plus insurance policy.
30.b It is a co-branded insurance scheme exclusively designed for IOB customers with a sum insured
starting from ?50,000 and going up to ?15 lakh.
30.c The policy issuance will be made on a real-time basis at the IOB branches to its customers. Self,
spouse, dependent children, dependent parents can be covered under the policy.

to fight climate change
31.a BASIC countries have urged developed nations to adhere to the commitment made under the
Paris Agreement and provide finance and technology to the developing world.
31.b In a joint statement, the BASIC, a bloc of four large countries, Brazil, South Africa, India and
China, emphasized that the global climate action should promote climate justice by recognizing
fundamental equality of all people in accessing economic growth and sustainable development.
31.c After the conclusion of two-day 29th BASIC Ministerial meeting on climate change at Beijing in
China, the countries reaffirmed and emphasized the need for people's participation and climate-
friendly lifestyle for addressing the challenge of climate change.
31.d Minister for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar along with Ministers from China, South
Africa and Brazil attended the Ministerial meeting.

32. Amazon’s male white bellbird is the world’s loudest bird
32.a The male white bellbird is the world’s loudest bird which hits 125.4 decibels.
32.b This study was published in the journal Current Biology. This was recorded by Biologist Jeff Podos
at Brazil in the mountains of the northern Amazon.
32.c The call by the bird is made as part of their mating rituals and it’s mating call is about three
times louder than screaming phias.
32.d The screaming phias (Lipaugus vociferans), also an Amazonian species, previously held the
record of being the world’s loudest bird.

33. Prakash Javadekar launches first national protocol to enumerate snow leopard population in
India
33.a Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched the first national protocol to
enumerate the snow leopard population in the country on the occasion of International Snow Leopard
Day.
33.b International Snow Leopard Day is celebrated on October 23 every year to protect and conserve

the snow leopards and preserve the beautiful wildlife of the Himalayas.
33.c India is believed to have 400 to 700 snow leopards spread across Himachal Pradesh,
Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
33.d Project Snow Leopard is an initiative of the Environment Ministry which aims to safeguard and
conserve India's unique natural heritage of high altitude wildlife populations and their habitats by
promoting conservation through participatory policies and actions.
34. Air quality in Delhi deteriorates to a hazardous level
34.a The air quality turned hazardous in Delhi as the citizens defied the Supreme Court-enforced two-
hour limit for bursting crackers on Diwali.
34.b According to government agencies, at 11 p.m., Delhi's overall Air Quality Index, AQI, stood at
327.
34.c AQI at Mother Dairy in Patparganj area and National Malaria Institute, Dwarka was recorded at
999 and 763 respectively.
34.d The levels of PM 10 tiny particulate matter had reached as high as 515 micro-grams per cubic
metre in Anand Vihar during the day.
34.e An AQI between 301-400 is considered very poor, and 401-500 severe. Above 500 is a severe-
plus emergency category.

35.c The President arrived in Tokyo after concluding his five-day state visit to the Philippines.
35.d The president visited a Buddhist temple in Tokyo where he planted a Bodhi sapling, which he
carried from India.
35.e This is the first presidential visit to Japan from India after a gap of 29 years.
36. New Delhi to Host First ‘Global Bio-India 2019’ Summit from 21st - 23rd November
36.a The Global Bio-India 2019, one of the largest biotechnology stakeholders conglomerate will be
held for the first time in India at New Delhi from 21st to 23rd November 2019.
36.b India for the first time is hosting a mega event for the biotech community to attract investments,
showcase our indigenous strengths and more importantly fuel the hopes and aspirations of the
indigenous talent pool.
36.c The event has been structured to bring together stakeholders from 30 countries, 250 start-ups,
200 exhibitors.
36.d The event is expected to strengthen the indigenous research capabilities, bio-entrepreneurship,

37. 18th NAM Summit: Baku, Azerbaijan
37.a 18th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is scheduled to take place at Baku, the capital of
Azerbaijan from 25-26 October 2019.

adoption of the Baku Declaration.

51. Government approves the in-principle merger for BSNL and MTNL
51.a The Union Cabinet approved the proposal for revival of BSNL and MTNL.
51.b The Cabinet approved administrative allotment of spectrum for 4G services to BSNL and MTNL
so as to enable these PSUs to provide broadband and other data services.
51.c The spectrum will be funded by the government by capital infusion in these PSUs at a value of Rs
20,140 crore.
51.d The GST of Rs 3,674 crore for the spectrum value will also be borne by the government.
51.e By using this spectrum allotment, BSNL and MTNL will be able to deliver 4G services, compete in
the market and provide high-speed data using their vast network including in rural areas.
51.f The minister said that the BSNL and the MTNL will also raise long-term bonds of Rs 15,000 crore
for which sovereign guarantee will be provided by the government.

62. NCRB releases Crime in India Report 2017
62.a National Crime Records Bureau has released the annual “Crime in India Report 2017”. The report

Regulations, 2013 which clearly specifies that no commission shall be payable to any intermediary on

88.a In a major thrust for the digital and cashless payments ecosystem in India, the Central
government launched the BHIM 2.0 Universal Payments Interface (UPI).
88.b Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in 2016, the BHIM 2.0 comes
loaded with a host of functionalities, including support for additional languages, and also enhanced
transaction limits.
88.c The new version of BHIM supports three additional languages - Konkani, Bhojpuri and Haryanvi -
over and above the existing 13.
88.d The new developments in the application also include options of investing and applying in Initial
Public Offerings (IPOs), gifting of money, linking multiple bank accounts etc.
