I. CASE STUDY. Refer to the case study. Write your answer on the space provided below. (12
points)
Daniel Ramiscal and Clodualdo Perez were good friends. They were hired together in 2001 by a big
candy factory in Batangas as salesman. Daniel, who had a better educational background, became
the company’s marketing department manager after two years while Clodualdo continued as
salesman.
Clodualdo envied Daniel because of the better opportunities and appointments given to him by
the company administrators. Quietly, Clodualdo enrolled in evening classes so that he would be able
to finish his college education and hopefully be appointed as a department manager like Daniel.
After two years, Clodualdo succeeded in getting a college diploma, but since there was no
vacancy in any of the supervisory or managerial positions, he still remained as a salesman. Promotion
to a higher ranking position became an obsession for him and this affected his work performance. He
was not happy anymore because he felt that he was not being given the recognition that was due
him. He kept comparing himself to Daniel, who, by 2011, was already the company’s vice president
for administrators.
Questions:
1. If you were in Clodualdo’s position, what will you do? Explain your answer.
2. What, in your own opinion, could be the possible reasons why the company management failed
to give Clodualdo the recognition which he felt was due him? Explain your answer.
